Goalkeeper back in training after cancer

Birmingham City Ladies goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger is back in full training with the club after having an operation to treat thyroid cancer.

The 27-year-old former Paris Saint-Germain player, who joined Birmingham in 2016, was diagnosed in November.

In a statement on social media, the German said: “The operation went really well and I’m on the road to recovery.

“I’m really happy to be back in between the sticks. Of course, it will still take some time until I can play again.”

Berger has played in two major finals for Birmingham City, the 2016 Continental Cup and the 2017 FA Cup, both of which they lost to Manchester City.

Speaking in November, manager Marc Skinner said: “I have total belief that Ann will beat this illness and strive to be back playing again in the future.”

Eagles’ World Cup foes take prep steps for Nigeria – FCNaija

Super Eagles World Cup group opponents Argentina and Croatia are also taking steps to prepare for Nigeria as they have finalised warm-up games in March leading up to Russia 2018.

Two-time world champions Argentina will take on Italy, who sensationally failed to qualify for Russia 2018, on March 23 in Basel, Switzerland.

Four days later, they will test their readiness for the World Cup against 2010 world champions Spain in Madrid.

The Croats will face Peru on March 23 possibly to get a feel of the South American style of football Argentina will present when both teams clash on June 21 in Novgorod.
