Exercise As Power Source

This day and age it can be very difficult indeed to go to the gym. Life is very hectic and busy, which will create a serious challenge for remaining consistent with exercise each day. Exercise is however, just what we all need to reduce stress, and give the body the extra energy it needs to carry out normal living.

The best results of exercise are achieved through the use of refined techniques, functional exercises, cardio, the right nutrition, variety, awareness, consistency, and motivation over a period of time.

The refined techniques mean correct form to isolate muscles or to target areas of the body. Efficiency is need to ensure stimulation of the muscles. With weight lift training, which is also known as resistance training, you’ll need to eliminate any type of momentum.

It is also important to move the weight about using a full range of motion. Full range of motion causes the muscle to contract for the right amount of time and help to ensure the right length of the tendons. The goal here is to strengthen the joints of your body by stimulating the muscles.

Cadence is also helpful, as it is a term that refers to the rate in which the resistance or the weight moves. The best results with cadence are gained by slow movements which will cause the muscle to contract for a longer period of time. You can mix in a series of fast and slow cadence, which is very beneficial with sports type training.

Using the correct angles will achieve muscle isolation in target areas and help to decrease the risk of injuries, which is great for those using heavy weights.

Doing Functional Exercise Helps

Functional type exercise is a popular technique that will stimulate the core and torso of your body while you work on another muscle group at the same time. As an example, when you perform a dumbell press while lying on an exercise ball.

Your abdominal muscles and the core muscles will contract to hold your body into this position, while your chest and tricep muscles will push the dumbells up. This type of exercise and challenge will cause maximum stimulation to your body and keep the workout interesting and refreshing.

Cardio is another exercise that is great for the heart and lungs. The total number of calories you burn is very important along with maintaining the right heart rate. The formula for your heart rate is 220 minus your age times 60 for the lower number, then 220 minus you age and times 80 for the upper number.

This is also known as fat burning zone. Cardio will also de-toxify the body and help to strengthen the immune system along with other benefits. The muscles will contract and pass the lymph along, which will allow the immune system to clear away dead cells and bring new ones in.

Be Sure to Warm Up Before Exercise

Anytime you exercise, warming up is very important, as it will prepare your body for the more demanding workout of cardio. You should always allow 15 – 30 minutes prior to weight lifting and 10 – 15 minutes prior to cardio exercises. You should also stretch as well, as this will help get the blood flowing through your musles and get them limber as well.

An ideal schedule for working out is to warm up then follow with cardio. You can lift weights on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday then cardio only on Tuesday and Thursday. Even though you may think your schedule is simply too busy to maintain a schedule for working out, you’ll find that adding exercise will actually add more time, as you’ll have a lot more energy in your normal everyday life. You can think of exercise as the batteries that will help to give your life power.

How to Train for a 5K Run

A 5K race is an excellent way for new runners to experience the thrill of competing in a race. A race provides the motivation you need to improve your running time. It also provides enjoyment and a sense of accomplishment when you complete the race. Whether you’re running 5K or a marathon, it’s important to be physically and mentally prepared. Below are some tips on how to train for a 5K run.

Plan Ahead

Once you decide to join a 5K race, the first thing you have to do is make a plan for your training program. Give yourself enough time to train for a 5K run. Beginners who have never run before may need a couple of months to get in shape while others may need only four to six weeks of training. Your training program will also depend on how fast you want to run the race.

Make sure you have a good pair of running shoes. You may also want a stopwatch or a digital watch with a timer function to help you measure your speed while training. A journal or notebook will come in handy for keeping track of your progress.

Choose a Training Program

If you want to complete the race without suffering any injury, you should start training several weeks before the race. New runners typically need 6 to 8 weeks of training for a 5K run. This will give you enough time to build the stamina you need to run 5K (5 kilometers),which is equivalent to 3.1 miles.

A training program for new runners usually consists of running one to two miles a day, five days a week. As your fitness level improves, gradually increase the distance run until you are able to run 3 miles at an easy pace. Some training programs consist of 30-minutes of walking/jogging/running, five days a week.

While training, always drink plenty of water to stay well hydrated.

Learn How to Pace Yourself

Part of your goal to train for a 5K run is to learn how to pace yourself. This will allow you to finish the race in a specific amount of time. If it takes you 16 minutes to complete a mile, you’ll be able to finish 5K in about 50 minutes. If you can complete one mile in 8 minutes, it will take about 26 minutes to run 5K.

A stopwatch or digital watch will come in handy when timing yourself.

Set Your Own Goals

When you train for a 5K run, you should also learn how to set goals that are realistic and practical. Runners, whether novice or experienced, should always run their own race, meaning they should run at a pace that will allow them to finish the race without tiring themselves out or getting injured. Do not compare your pace to the pace of other competitors. Completing a 5K run is already a big accomplishment that you should be proud of.

More or Less

I hope you all had a lovely holiday and are gearing up for a new year tomorrow. I had a very spoiled Christmas, filled to the brim with good food, good company and more gifts than I deserved.

I’m ready for 2012, are you?  It seems there are two sets of people on new years, those that diligently create resolutions and goals, and those that are violently against it. I’m a resolution person, but if you’ve been reading any amount of time, you already knew that. Mostly, I just think it’s fun to create a spread sheet of what I want more of and what I want less of.

Right off the top of my head, I want more contentment in the small things in my life. This past year, I was not content with contentment. I spent the year worrying that if I wasn’t piling on the projects and giving light to all of my ideas that I wasn’t moving forward. I was eager to skip steps and make things happen unnaturally for the sake of making something, anything, happen. That was a huge lesson.

I believe my health suffered because of this. Most notably that I’ve had a cold and now getting over a stomach virus in just two weeks.

As I sit here in my safe and quiet house, I realize how important this stability is to me. What I do is wonderful, I love passion, but I love knowing that I’m doing all that I can to maintain a happy home life for myself and my husband. That I’m doing what I can to keep myself healthy. And in this I find myself retreating, a lot. This year, I see myself saying no and passing on projects. I see myself riding the waves as they come. Taking the long road to my goals, rather than the “Let’s make this happen now!” insanity that I put myself through last year. I see myself going with the flow and trusting that I can grow and move forward just while, and especially so, taking care of my home, health and happiness.

This year, I will be narrowing my projects down to one. business. which is my design/art/creative business. And working on my blogs. Other than that, I will be cooking more and eating more vegetables, and taking time to dance and have fun and most importantly, to just be.

I want more fresh fruit and vegetable juices.  I believe in juicing and how good it makes me feel.

I want  to complain and worry less.

I want more exercise.

I want to take the long road and be okay with the journey.

I want to stop worrying, finally, about what other people think.

I want more sewing, painting and illustrating.

I want less social media.

I want more cooking.

I want less driving.

I want to make realistic and attainable goals.

Happy New Year!
