Biggest Loser Resort

We have all heard that you can’t put a price on good health. Well while watching the Biggest Loser last night I noticed that they were plugging the Biggest Loser Resort. We are all used to all the cross promotion that the Biggest Loser does so it should not have surprised me that they had moved into the resort business.

I had not heard of the Biggest Loser Resort so I had to Google it to learn more.

Well it seems that there are four locations and it is basically the same experience as the Biggest Loser TV Show without the celebrity coaches. They have workout facilities, recovery facilities, nutrition classes and even cooking classes.

Expensive Biggest Loser Experience

When I first looked at the website the first thing I looked at was the price. I am kind of a bottom lie guy which is a bit of a problem and the price is quite a bit $3,000 a week.

I was thinking “$3,000? What the hell? That is a crapload of money”

Well maybe I jumped against the price a bit quick. I always look at these kinds of things as compared to a vacation. usually an all inclusive vaction would cost between $1,000 and $2,000 for a week but this would probably be a much less relaxing but much better vacation even though it is really expensive.

So the “vaction” itself would be a lot different. My last all inclusive vacation my family went on was in Mexico and included room, food, booze, workout facilities, concierge and entertainment.

What Does Biggest Loser Resort Offer?

The Biggest Loser Resort by comparison has all of that plus courses on meal planning, eating, exercising, cooking, in home workout planning. Also the gym workouts have great trainers and many different kinds of training classes.

Really the idea of the Biggest Loser Resort seems to be an all inclusive Biggest Loser TV show type experience where you live, breath, eat, and experience a full fitness boot camp lifestyle.

Again this whole Biggest Loser Resort experince is really interesting but also disappointing as the huge majority of people that don’t have the knowledge and resources would never be able to afford this kind of one or two week or even more time on a situation that would really help.

What are your thoughts about the idea of the Biggest Loser Resort? Would you be interested in spending some time there? Had you even heard of it before?

Getting Healthy Does Not Have To Be Hard

I liked this upbeat article from Cortney. Often we think that there is a tough battle, even a drudgery to getting lean and healthy but look  what she has to say and take it to heart.

You probably scoffed to yourself as you read the title, but really, it doesn’t have to be that hard.

CourtneyI blame the fitness industry for the confusion as everyone has the trick to lose 10 lbs in 10 days, get abs now, and all you have to do is eat this way, buy this gadget, take this supplement and so on and so on. Exasperated, people are always looking for the next trick to try and get results and that leads to over-complicating of what should be a very simple process. And while we may not all want the same thing, or have the same goals, a lot of the questions I get repeat over and over. I think it is because when it comes to health and fitness there is… Too much of Too little.

Health consumers encounter information overload at every turn. More info is available than ever before, yet there is so little understanding. The sheer enormity of books, TV infomercials, diets and fitness toys bring greater confusion instead of clarity. And thanks to the Google (a Google search of the ‘best diet’ yields 709 million results) knowing what information works, what is garbage and what comes from credible sources is harder than ever before.

So I wanted to take the moment to tell you one simple truth that will hopefully ease some distress and confusion: there is no RIGHT WAY to be healthy and get in the best shape of your life.

I repeat: There is no right way to be healthy and get in the best shape of your life.

You can ask me and any other professional out there: How do I get abs? How do I eat clean while working a full-time career? How do I get a toned booty? Is the paleo diet good? I can only promise one thing, that you will get 100 different answers. But have you ever thought about how so many ‘in shape’ people or so called ‘experts’ can all swear by a different way to get there? It’s because they all did one simple thing the same: They had focus, health conscious eating habits, consistency, and they moved more than they sat. Bottom line.

So don’t worry about the latest diet or workout craze. Instead:

Just Move. And Do it Often. Find workouts that you enjoy, make you sweat and are challenging. And most important, that will keep you coming back for more for long enough to see results.

Focus on eating REAL food and fueling your body (hint: it doesn’t come from a bag, box, or can). Different diets work for different people so experiment and find what works with your lifestyle and makes you look good- that simple.

Give it time. Be patient with yourself and your journey. You don’t gain 20 lbs overnight and a few days of good habits won’t take it off either. Stick with it.

When you over-focus on your food and body image, your world becomes very limited. Time and consistency win every time on the path to your goals. So, stop hunting for the latest and greatest (there is no magic pill, sorry) and start living. The real secret is to relax, believe it doesn’t have to be this hard, eat real, whole foods, workout regularly, and get good rest. Repeat.

Keep it simple. Keep it flexible. Keep it real.

Don’t Let Your Emotions Cloud Judgement

I feel bad today because I am just sitting on the couch. Last week was a tough week as my kidney deprived daughter was in the hospital a couple of times and it just weighed me down.

On Sunday Taylor was fine and then in the evening she came down with a fever and was misdiagnosed on Monday, which made me furious and then again in the hospital on Wednesday until Thursday to get fluids pumped into her as she was dehydrated. She is fine now but the week was emotionally exhausting

The reason I tell this story is because this week my emotions took me away from my priorities and because of this I have made some super bad decisions due to lazy judgement calls.

I would like to dissect my situation and see if this can help you out.

What I do

Everyday I have certain priorities that I want to complete and I rate my day based on doing these. Mostly my days have to have the following to be successful; exercise, blog posting, facebook twitter and Google+ interaction, family time, sleep, eating healthy, and helping others in some way. Of course there is work too and I want to make sure that I get as many of these things done although I do not have a lot of scheduled or written priorities.

What happens

I know that this is bad but it usually works for me, well usually until weeks like this knock me down and out.

So what happens during weeks like this (days as well sometimes) is that emotionally we get hit by something, feel a bit down, and then hit by something else and this will just lead us to shield ourselves. In these situations we just shut down the things that are important and we go into protection mode. I have done this, I bet you have done this, and we are all built with a defence mechanism that forces us in times of trouble or distress to just do what is needed and let everything else fall be the wayside.

Is this ok?

I know that how I act, and how we act as individuals is fine. This is the way we are built and how we are supposed to be. I look back on my last week and know that I did what was important (taking care of my family and especially my daughter) but I also made some bad decisions in that I have vague priorities that I did not complete.

I remember a story a few years ago about Kobe Bryant and how he was able to compartmentalize parts of his life. He was in the middle of the rape trial that could possibly put him in prison and he would fly back to LA and play some of the best basketball of his career as he was probably in his worst personal trials of his life. The power of this compartmentalization is something that we should all think about and try to do when the world feels like it is closing in on us.

What to do, what to do…

I am really not that great at this but I am learning. What you need to do is have some goals and plans. Every morning, or the evening before decide based on your life, short term, and daily goals what is important to get done. This does not mean that you have to have 20 things planned or anything in fact just having two or three outcomes or goals for that day are all you need.

This is not what I do and it is my own fault. If I had a goal just to sit down for 30 minutes each day this week to write a blog post and interact on Facebook then I would have got things done while at the same time I could have helped my wife, son, and daughter with their problems better.

Even better of course is to decide on Sunday night what your priorities for the week are and then extrapolate what needs to be done each day to reach those before the next Sunday night comes along.

Also we have to remember that life is supposed to be about those around us. Family and friends are always the top priority and down weeks will happen, this last week fore me is fine but people will have their lives spiral out of control through inaction and bad decisions all the time. don’t be that person!

So now it is time for you

So what do you do? Hop in here with a quick comment and let us all see some other ideas. Do you plan your day? Do you have any daily goals? Do your emotions lead you to making bad decisions or like me just no decisions? I know this could lead to the whole issue of emotional eating but I wanted to keep it a bit more defined to what we do in the situation of emotions and lifestyle.
