Thoughts on Earth Day 2013

Today is Earth Day and I know that my kids will be celebrating, or at least recognizing it, by picking up garbage in the neighborhoods around their school.

earth-day-2013Even though we often feel like we transcend our environment and that we are directing the area around us this is not actually true and just looking around can be a real wakeup call for us and make us realize that we are coexisting in our environment and need to take better care of it.

We can see on a daily basis as the weather changes are happening (whether it is manmade or not), and we can see the effects of building manufacturing plants and oil drilling around the world and how that has changed the environment.

I often think about how I live here in North America and my “carbon footprint” is changing the way the earth is and how people on other continents that don’t have to heat the house 8 months a year, or grocery shop with overpackaged goods built to draw us in. Even things so simple as the fact that in my house we have two cars instead of one only because of the convenience for my 50 kilometer drive to work.

In my more finger pointing moments I can point to other people that are living a life that has a lot of waste and say “Look there, they are polluting the world” but really it is all of us together, in this consumer based society I even see it in my son that will hop from one percieved need to another looking for satisfaction while we still buy too much that ends up in a landfill one day.

But feelings of guilt will never fix a problem and I think the problems that we see this Earth Day are worse than any other and quite probably next year things will be worse than this year. The fact is that we need to all step up, each person trying to make changes while not being concerned with what our neighbors do, really it is just about each of us making changes in how we spend our money and how.

So today as you go along try and see where each of your dollars go, how much of a difference good or bad are you doing by spending your money and what decisions are you making for good or bad?

I know that I have a long way to go but at least we can each start today in making a difference for the better

Happy Earth Day!

Farmville Farm Upgrades

Do you want more land for your Farmville animals?  Do you have more decorations than you can fit on your farm?  You can easily expand your farm without using any Farmville cheats. You can make a huge plantation out of your farm using Farmville’s land expansion option.  You can maximize XP and coins by getting upgrades.

The upgrades currently available are Homestead, Family Farm, Big Family Farm, Plantation, Big Ole Plantation and Mighty Plantation.

Homestead

Homestead is the first land expansion available in Farmville.  The size of this land expansion is 14×14.  You will have to pay 10,000 coins for the Homestead.  Besides coins, you will also require 8 neighbors or more.  Just having the coins won’t do it if you don’t have the neighbors as well.

Family Farm

The Family Farm is the next upgrade.  The Farmily Farm will expand your farm to 16×16. In order to expand to the Family Farm you will require 10 neighbors and 25,000 coins.

Big Family Farm

You can upgrade to the Big Family Farm after the Family Farm.  It will take your farm up to 18×18.  This upgrade can be purchased with either coins or farm cash.  It will take either 50,000 coins or 20 farm cash.

Plantation

Plantation, the fourth land upgrade, expands your farm to 20X20.  16 neighbors or more is what you will need for this expansion.  You can use farm cash or coins for this expansion.  You need to have 75,000 coins or 20 farm cash.  You don’t require the neighbors, however, if you use farm cash.

Big Ole Plantation

The next size farm is the Big Ole Plantation at 22×22.  To upgrade, you will require at least 20 neighbors.  You can purchase this upgrade for 250,0000 coins.

Mighty Plantation

Last January 22, this upgrade was made available to Farmville fans.  All Farmville players can’t get this upgrade.  Become a fan if you want to get this upgrade.

At the moment, the Mighty Plantation is the largest land expansion available.  It will cost 500,000 coins and you will need 30 neighbors to upgrade to the Mighty Plantation.  You can also use 60 Farm Cash to avail yourself of this upgrade.

Don’t forget that you need to get each upgrade in sequence.  You have to get the Homestead before you get the Family Farm, for example.  You can’t skip over an expansion.  If you don’t meet the requirements or haven’t bought the upgrade below it, you won’t be able to buy an expansion.  Also don’t forget that you need the required number of neighbors in addition to the coins or farm cash.
