Super Eagles striker released by Chinese club – FCNaija

Chinese second division club Beijing Enterprises have released Nigeria striker Victor Anichebe, according to ScoreNigeria.

The former Everton striker signed for the Chinese club in June last year, but failed to hit the ground running in the Far Eastern country and only scored twice in 11 league games for the ambitious team, who only managed to finish eighth last year in the Chinese second division.

The 29-year old has previously featured for Everton, West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland in the Premier League in England.

He has also been capped by Nigeria at U23 level, playing at the Beijing Olympics where Nigeria lost in the football final to a Lionel Messi-inspired Argentina.

Libya 0-1 Nigeria: Eagles defender voted Man-of-the-Match – FCNaija

Towering Super Eagles defender, Stephen Eze has been voted as the Man-of-the-Match in Friday’s Group C game between Nigeria and Libya.

Eze was quite massive for the Super Eagles at the back where he frustrated most of the moves of the Libyans.

He was also dangerous going forward for set pieces as Nigeria secured a lone goal win on Friday.

The lanky central defender has already signed a deal with Bulgarian club Lokomotiv Plovdiv and will join them at the end of Nigeria’s participation at the CHAN tournament.

Wenger reveals his most painful transfer deal with Man Utd – FCNaija

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed his most painful deal with his arch-rival Manchester United after he conceded that Alexis Sanchez will be the next striker to depart to Old Trafford.

Alexis Sanchez is supposed to be a Manchester United player in the next few hours as negotiation to seal the deal is already in place which will see Henrikh Mkhitaryan move to Arsenal.

However, Wenger has reflected on the transfer with Manchester United which he sees as the most painful as he sighted the sale of Robin Van Persie to the Alex Ferguson’s side in 2012.

The French coach had previously suggested that Arsenal won’t repeat the Van Persie scenario but he has eaten his word as he confirmed the departure of the Chilean forward in his previous conference talk and the forward trained away from the first-team and with the club’s developmental squad on Thursday.

“Our fans know Alexis will not extend – they have accepted that idea and the fact it will not be one-way traffic,” said Wenger. “It will be other-way traffic as well and that makes the whole thing a bit smoother, maybe a bit less disappointing. We lose a player, yes, but we could gain another player. I think one would replace the other.”  as reported by The Telegraph.

Wenger believes that the first £1m-a-week player has even become a possibility. “You cannot rule anything out,” he said. “We arrive at a level where the money for players who are free is so big, and the transfers so big, that the players think, ‘It’s better I go to the end of my contract’.

“We took Van Persie when he played in the reserve team at Feyenoord. We made a long work with him. When you get them there and, after they leave, that is the most painful.” he concluded.

Gunner will face the rest of the season without the Chilean forward.
