Goalkeeper back in training after cancer – FCNaija

Birmingham City Ladies goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger is back in full training with the club after having an operation to treat thyroid cancer.

The 27-year-old former Paris Saint-Germain player, who joined Birmingham in 2016, was diagnosed in November.

In a statement on social media, the German said: “The operation went really well and I’m on the road to recovery.

“I’m really happy to be back in between the sticks. Of course, it will still take some time until I can play again.”

Berger has played in two major finals for Birmingham City, the 2016 Continental Cup and the 2017 FA Cup, both of which they lost to Manchester City.

Speaking in November, manager Marc Skinner said: “I have total belief that Ann will beat this illness and strive to be back playing again in the future.”

Football ritual: Watch Barca’s Mina go barefoot at unveiling – FCNaija

Barcelona’s unveiling of new signing Yerry Mina at Camp Nou on Saturday witnessed one of football’s rituals as the defender surprised everyone after stepping onto the pitch barefoot, in a mark of respect for his new club and a superstition.

As he approached the pitch, the Colombian opted to take off his socks and boots before heading onto the turf and greeting the fans who were out in force.

Throughout the presentation, Mina showed signs of his extroverted character. He fully enjoyed the day, from the signing of his contract in the morning, to when he stepped out in front of thousands of supporters at the Camp Nou.

The fans also witnessed one of the Colombian’s funniest facets; his dancing. Without a doubt, it was a presentation that left everyone with a smile on their face.

Turan’s emotional message to Barca fans after Camp Nou exit – FCNaija

Arda Turan has sent an emotional message to Barcelona supporters after the La Liga leaders confirmed they had agreed a loan deal with Super Lig side Basaksehir on Saturday.

The Turkish International leaves the Club after two and a half seasons in which he has won everything there is to win domestically with the Blaugrana.

A confirmation by Barcelona read: “FC Barcelona and Istanbul Basaksehir FK agree on a loan deal for the Turkish player for the remainder of the season and two more.”

Turan who has played a total of 55 games for Barça, scoring 15 goals in his two and a half years at Camp Nou took to Twitter after his move was confirmed and left Barca fans a lengthy farewell message with the caption “Time to say goodbye”

During his time at the club, the Turkey international won 6 trophies – one league championship, two Copa del Rey, one Spanish Super Cup, one Club World Cup and one European Super Cup.

As such the Turk who came to FC Barcelona in the summer of 2015 from Atlético Madrid but due to a FIFA transfer ban was unable to make his debut until January 2016 leaves after completing a clean sweep of domestic trophies.
