Fad Diet Plans You Should Avoid and Why

The insanity regarding loss has affected every obese person out there. And why not? After all, Christmas is coming, and people want to lose fast so that they look their best at parties. A decision to lose is a good one, but you need to do it healthily. Unfortunately, most people take to the unhealthy loss method called ‘fad dieting’ and end up losing muscles rather than fat.

Keep in mind that a fad diet cannot offer you a permanent loss solution; only a healthy food plan can. So don’t focus on how to lose fast; rather, focus on how to become healthy through weight loss. In this article I will tell you about top four fad diets you mustn’t follow.

1. Liquid diet: Under this diet plan, you are required to eat only liquids and avoid all solid foods. Liquids such as milk, protein shakes, and fruit juices are recommended. If you follow this diet only for a few days, you will become weak and limp. This is definitely not a practical diet to go with since you won’t be able to follow it for the rest of your life.

2. Grapefruit diet: Have you ever heard of or followed this diet? If you have, you will know that this diet plan restricts your food intake to a ridiculously low level, probably to that of a baby. Under this diet plan, you need to eat only grapefruit and protein-rich foods at every single meal of the day. This diet is based on the belief that when protein is combined with grapefruit, it accelerates a person’s fat burning process by enhancing his metabolism, thereby helping him lose weight.

Now this might be true, but ask yourself – could you eat grapefruits all your life? I would surely get bored. Plus the loss you achieve through this diet would be just temporary. Obviously, this is not a diet plan for you.

Low hanging fruit

Easy ways to lose weight. I am always looking for easy ways to lose weight. As we know raising your metabolism is the easiest way to lose so it usually comes down to eating a few meals a day and getting exercise every day.

Last night there was a TV show on called “Losing the last 10 pounds”. The show looked interesting but right off the bat they showed the person that was the focus of the show. I did not catch her name but she was trying to lose a few pounds before a friends wedding. They show her in the kitchen, she is apologizing for the food she has, ships, candy chocolate. And then she says tht she gets no exercise. Two strikes against her but if she makes changes it would be fairly easy for her to lose some .

One of the problems with TV loss shows is that the targets are so easy to reach. If you are 20 or 30 pounds over, binge on junk food all night and have never exercised then you are in very crappy shape. What can these people so (if you are one of these people, great news for you) then grab the low hanging fruit….literally. Find the worst part of your diet, look at the exercise you now do, find those bad health habits. And once you have done this inventory just change the easiest things to change first.

Some people will tell you that you should do those tough things that will make the biggest difference but really what you want is lots of small victories that you can build on. Try to make sure that you are eating all the good food you need and then supplement with the crappy stuff and eventually cut that down. If you do not exercise then go out and walk around the block right now, I will not be offended if I have to wait for you to get back to read the last of this post. These little victories are the thing that will help you make changes because if you look back on success it was usually not those big things that you did all at once but instead was a bunch of little things that gave you the courage to make the bigger changes later.

I am not Paul Plakas

Paul Plakas is the fitness trainer on the TV show X-weighted. I have written about X-weighted before and the show itself is really good from the standpoint of the ideas. Paul Plakas tries his best on the show to help people from where they are now and their attitudes about food and exercise and one of the nice things about Paul is that he is tough on people.

What tends to happen to most people it seems on X weighted is that they change their eating and exercise and of course the early returns are not great compared to the sacrifices, no one seems to get the idea that they may be gaining muscle mass so the scale weight does in fact lie (more on that in another post). I like watching Paul lightly berate the people about their attitudes about food, exercise, and fitness in general.

OK so here is the reason for this post, and I hope Paul does see this at some point, people email me thanking me and the TV show all the time for the help that they have seen in the show and the inspiration that the show is to them.

I am not Paul but it is nice to see how people feel about the show and the questions that they have. If I can find Paul Plakas email address at some point I will try my best to forward messages as I give them but please if you are looking for Paul you should try the Slice network which was formerly the Life Network.
