Israeli army considering taking control of Palestinian areas in Jerusalem

Israeli military forces are considering taking control over Shu’fat refugee camp and Kafr Aqab areas, according to information obtained by Israeli daily Haaretz.

Whilst the proposed  plan is still unknown, army officials said the decision has been motivated by an increase in unrest and violence in East Jerusalem.

The two areas are currently under the jurisdiction of the Jerusalem municipality but are physically cut off from the city as a result of the separation wall.

There are approximately between 100,000 and 150,000 residents in Kafr Aqab and the Shu’fat refugee camp; they carry Israeli identity cards and have residency status in Israel.

Trump denies Netanyahu’s statement on moving embassy within 2018

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday denied Netanyahu’s statement that the US embassy to Israel will be moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem within this year.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said last month the embassy move was “probably no earlier than three years out, and that’s pretty ambitious,” a timeframe that administration officials have attributed to the logistics of finding and securing a site as well as arranging housing for diplomats, Reuters reported.

Netanyahu told reporters during his trip to India that the move is expected to take place within this year “based on assessment.”  Asked about Netanyahu’s comment, Trump told Reuters in an interview that was not the case. ”By the end of the year? We’re talking about different scenarios – I mean obviously that would be on a temporary basis. We’re not really looking at that. That’s no.“

On 6 December 2017, Trump recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, despite facing a sharp wave of criticism by the internaional community andb angry protests by Palestinians.

The city is the second holiest place in Islam and is important for Christian and Muslim Palestinians alike for its holy sites.

Moses: Chelsea quality too much for Brighton – FCNaija

Super Eagles and Chelsea forward Victor Moses has praised the quality of Antonio Conte’s men after they whipped Brighton 4-0 to consolidate their top four spot in the Premier League on Saturday.

A fast start from the Blues paved the way for a first Premier League victory of 2018 with Eden Hazard, Willian and Moses all finding the net in style.

Moses in a tweet said: “Quality team performance from the boys today buzzing to get on the score sheet ⚽️???? thanks to all the traveling fans great support as always ?.”

Chelsea head to the Emirates on Wednesday to face Arsenal in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

The display by Moses and his troops meant Brighton have won only one of their past 13 league games and they turn attention to the trip to Middlesbrough in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday, January 27.
