English Premier League club, Arsenal have confirmed that they have made their first signing of the January transfer window

Though it is not the kind of signing many Arsenal fans will jump up for, the Gunners are nonetheless happy to capture the new youngster.

Arsenal on their official website wrote: “Young Greek defender Konstantinos Mavropanos has signed for us.

“The 20 year-old centre-back arrives from PAS Giannina, where he has made 16 Greek Super League appearances since breaking into the first team last season.

“We’d like to welcome Konstantinos to the club and wish him well for the future”

It is expected that there will be more arrivals at Arsenal during this transfer window.

Chelsea are set to complete a £15million deal for Ross Barkley.

The Everton midfielder seemed close to joining the Blues last summer, and although he denied being close to a switch then, it is being reported he is set to complete a move to Stamford Bridge and it could be as soon as today.

The Premier League champions are also said to have made a surprise enquiry for West Ham striker Andy Carroll, according to the Daily Mail.

Carroll will be a surprise move for by Antonio Conte, as the striker has endured an injury-hit spell at West Ham since 2013, and the Blues still have Michy Batshuayi and then Alvaro Morata on their payroll.

Barkley is out of contract in the summer, but Chelsea are willing to pay £15m now in a bid to outmanoeuvre Tottenham, whose manager Mauricio Pochettino is a long-term admirer of the attacking midfielder.

Everton manager Sam Allardyce had hoped to convince Barkley to stay but he has now accepted the academy graduate will move on.

“We are resigned and the club was resigned before I got here that we’re going to lose Ross and I can’t see that changing,” said Allardyce.

“I expect there will be some interest some time in this window. He’s back in training full-time. When he comes back, the touch won’t be quite as good as it used to be and the match fitness won’t be quite as good as it used to be.”

Jose Mourinho is not happy over Manchester United’s reluctance to make a move for Tottenham leftback Danny Rose in this January transfer window.

It is believed the United boss has identified Rose as his ideal left back, but the Old Trafford chiefs are reluctant to make a £40million play for the 27-year old, a development which has frustrated the Portuguese, according to the Daily Mail.

Ashley Young, a converted winger, appears to be United’s first-choice in that position after Mourinho decided that Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind are not up to the job, but the report claim the United hierarchy, on the other hand, believe Shaw can still be a success despite struggling for form and fitness since his £30m move from Southampton in 2014.

It’s understood that they want to let Shaw develop further and sign a left-back for the future. A number of options are being considered including Fulham teenager Ryan Sessegnon.

With Young currently serving a three-match ban after switching to the right to deputise for the injured Antonio Valencia, Shaw has started the last three Premier League games and is not expected to be sold this month.
