Small Changes Make a Big Difference

Small Changes Make a Big Difference

First Step to Big Change

When you are trying to get motivated to get something done then the best place to start is with something small that you can build on. A great part of motivation is the small step that you need to do to get forward momentum and once you have that you are unstoppable, but how to make that first step?

First Step to Big Change

Well there are many ways to make that first step, Leo at Zen Habits says that you should just do the minimum possible, like 2 minutes of exercise. Another thing you can do is decide that you will drink 2 cups of water first thing in the morning, or eat a healthy breakfast of Oatmeal and a banana. You can decide to park in the furthest lot at work or get off a train one stop early.

The fact is you do not have to do all of these things just do one today and again tomorrow and then without saying anything to your resistant brain do one more of these things the next day, you now have two and the momentum is there. Three weeks from now you have turned you life around with a bunch of little changes that you would not even think are possible today.

This is the best way to start this one step at a time process. Do not even look at goals for this one just get ideas and write them down and then take the easiest one and do it today. Lets say you want to improve your health. You can probably come up with 50 things along the lines of stretch while watching TV tonight, or one of the above. If you want to spend less money you could think of a great dinner for tonight and make a little bit too much and have it for leftovers tomorrow, I love leftovers.

Example – How to be more Outgoing

If you want to be more outgoing and are afraid then maybe just make it a task to go out and get a latte tonight and sit in the coffee place for 10 minutes before you leave with your coffee in hand, or sit in a crowded dog park bouncing a ball (the dogs will follow the ball and the owners will follow the dog).

The fact is that just getting out there and making small changes is the only way to any goal. If you wanted to lose 100 pounds or do the Hawaii Ironman Triathalon there is no way that you could just start hard core training, you would have to start with small steps and work up. The human mind resists change so if you trick it with these small changes you will be successful before you brain figures out that you are changing.

Pregnancy and Smoking: The Facts

Pregnancy and Smoking are very dangerous for you and your baby. Your doctor will have told you that pregnancy and smoking are not a good mix, if you didn’t already know. But at the same time you may know of people whose parents smoked who seem perfectly normal and healthy. Maybe your own mother smoked when she was pregnant with you. So what is the problem?

Unfortunately statistics show that if a woman smokes during pregnancy the baby is much more likely to suffer from certain issues. This doesn’t mean that every child will be affected in an obvious way. Maybe you and your friends escaped – but maybe you would have been even healthier if your mothers had been non-smokers.

Scary Pregnancy and Smoking Facts

The facts about pregnancy and smoking can be scary. The time when you are newly pregnant or thinking about starting a family is an excellent opportunity to stop smoking because you have this extra motivation. Your doctor and probably your family too will support you even more than they would at other times. Take some time to think about these risks if you are considering quitting.

The problems with pregnancy and smoking begin before you are even pregnant. Smoking affects fertility in both men and women. So if you both smoke and you want to start a family, it would be a great idea to quit together now.

Pregnancy and Smoking

Pregnancy and Smoking

How does smoking harm a fetus? From the moment of conception, the growing fetus is nourished by nutrients and oxygen passed to it in the mother’s blood through the placenta. Smoking reduces the amount of oxygen in the blood and replaces it with poisonous carbon monoxide, so less oxygen reaches your baby. At the same time, some of the other toxins in smoke are carried in the bloodstream and can affect the healthy functioning of the placenta.

Because of these factors, there is more chance of something going wrong during the pregnancy. The issues with pregnancy and smoking mean that women who smoke are more likely to have a miscarriage or a baby who dies in the womb.

Facts about Pregnancy and Smoking

If the baby survives to birth, some of the effects of pregnancy and smoking on a newborn include

  • lower birth weight
  • more chance of premature birth
  • twice the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (‘cot death’)
  • twice as likely to be hospitalized in the first 8 months of life
  • more likely to suffer from ear infections, bronchitis and other diseases.

But in the end it is your choice to quit or not. Nobody can force you to quit, nor can they do it for you. The more you smoke, the greater the damage to the baby, so if you just reduce your smoking it is better than doing nothing. But the best thing is to quit.

Imagine if you could easily use the same method that allowed Paul Peyton, a heavy smoker for more than 14 years, ? to permanently quit overnight… Wouldn’t that be wonderful?Well, guess what – you can. In fact, ANYONE can do it.

But first, you need to understand where you’ve gone wrong in the past… Treating just the physical addiction to smoking. But it can only be removed completely by using targeted psychotherapeutic techniques. NOT by ignoring it and hoping it will go away. And CERTAINLY NOT by throwing even more nicotine at it, in the form of patches or gum. You MUST deal with BOTH parts of your addiction the right way, or you will keep getting those cravings forever…

Specific, step by step instructions ? we show you exactly what to do, so nothing is left to chance. You choose the timeframe ? implement the method at your own pace, as you feel comfortable. Tried and tested method ? this cutting-edge method has been successfully used to cure thousands of happy ex-smokers. Permanently removes your mental dependence at the subconscious level ? resulting in a permanent end to mental cravings.
Check out PermaQuit now.

If your pregnancy is stressful for any reason, it may seem like a difficult time to stop smoking. Remind yourself that nicotine is not helping your stress, it is contributing to it. It only seems to help because your body has become addicted. If you can get through the first couple of weeks without cigarettes you will find that you are much more relaxed. It is worth doing this for the sake of your baby if you can, because of the negative links between pregnancy and smoking.

Tony Robbins Tips for 2012

Tony Robbins is a guy that I have listened to for years but I took a break from him for the last few years thinking that the last thing that I need is motivation and the big thing that I needed was action.

Well times maybe changing for me. I watched this Tony Robbins video last weekend and it really fired me up, I was sharing it everywhere I could

Be warned the Tony Robbins video is 35 or 40 minutes long but I think this is a great break to inspire you. When I say inspire I mean that watching this video is not just to get you fired up and ready to take on the world but instead this video will give you actionable ideas for how to make sure that you know where you are going and why. I think mostly of this as a planning session and brainstorming and it should lead to another session for you to make sure you know what you need to do over the rest of the year.

How Tony Robbins Helps Build Standards

Looking at this video by Tony Robbins I just want to mention one thing and that is the idea of setting standards that you live by. By saying standards I mean that I think of myself as living a certain way, decisions to live by. Here are an example of 5 of my standards that I live by.

  1. I drink water all day long
  2. Exercise is a high priority everyday
  3. I never eat after dinner
  4. Fruit and veggies are great snacks
  5. I make sure I have goals for the week all the time

I know this list is just an example of a few things and I know I still come up short. I scramble around from task to task and leave a lot of things unfinished and I get distracted easily so I still have a lot of work to do.

I hope that Tony Robbins video as well as my own examples here can help you to set your own standards as well as look at, like I do, parts of your life where standards are missing. Tony Robbins is more than just a motivational speaker, I think that watching these Tony Robbins videos can help you build some needed structure in your life.
