Villarreal’s top scorer and Congolese striker Cedric Bakambu is on the verge of leaving the Spanish club for a move to Chinese Super League side Beijing Guoan.
Confirming the reported interest on Wednesday, the Liga side’s coach Javi Calleja said: “Bakambu’s transfer is being finalised “It could be a matter of hours. There are the interests of many parties [to consider]. “There is a release clause [of 40 million euros] and it appears it will be paid.” Calleja told MARCA The Yellow Submarines manager then went on to say that he hoped the club could find a replacement for the striker in this market. The Congolese striker who has netted nine times in La Liga this season, making him the joint-fifth top scorer in Spain’s top flight has scored 48 goals in all competitions for Villarreal since joining from Turkish outfit Bursaspor in 2015 for a reported £6.64 million.
