How To Follow A Raw Vegan Diet

How To Follow A Raw Vegan Diet

Raw Vegan Diet

The raw vegan diet is the most popular of all raw diets available today. However, it can be difficult to follow in its pure form. Most people who start a raw vegan diet have not previously been vegan, so they need some information about it before they start.

The Vegan Diet

A standard vegan diet includes no animal products at all. That means no dairy, eggs, fish or meat. Vegans will also not consume food that uses animal products or ‘labor’ in the processing, such as honey (bees) or commercially produced wine, which is filtered through fish scales unless marked vegan.

In addition, some vegans will not buy or use leather goods or silk, among other things. However, most vegans eat sugar and other refined foods. They can be overweight and if they are not careful, they can suffer nutritional deficiencies – just like anybody who eats a lot of sugar and snacks.

The Raw Vegan Diet

The difference between vegan and raw vegan is that the raw vegan diet does not include any food that has been heated above 118 degrees F (some say 115 degrees), which is the limit at which the living elements of a plant will be killed.

For example, if you buy raw sunflower seeds and soak them in water, you can make them sprout in a few days, because they still have a living germ. But if you buy roasted sunflower seeds, they have no living element and will never sprout. That is why raw foods are often called ‘living foods’.

Many people believe that there are advantages to the body in eating living foods. In fact, some believe that the body reacts to cooked food as if it were poison. Of course, this has not been scientifically proven.

The raw option cuts out most of the unhealthy aspects of a standard vegan diet, such as sugar. However, following a diet that is 100% raw also means not taking vitamin and mineral supplements, which may be keeping many vegans healthy. For example B12 is an essential vitamin that is only found in animal products. It must be taken as a supplement by long term vegans.

Going raw also removes other vegan staples such as tofu and other soy-based products, bottled sauces, and cooked beans. Some beans can be included in the diet in their sprouted form.

Alternatives To The Raw Vegan Diet

If after reading this you decide that the raw vegan diet is not for you, there are variations that may still give you a lot of the potential health benefits of a raw vegan diet.

First, you can be 100% raw without being vegan. You might follow a raw vegetarian diet which could include unpasteurized dairy products and perhaps raw eggs. Including dairy products will take care of many of the concerns that people have about calcium on a raw vegan diet. However, you need to be aware that there are certain health risks in consuming unpasteurized dairy.

Second, you can be vegan without being 100% raw. This option allows you to follow a high raw diet while still using some cooked or processed foods such as tofu or vitamin and mineral supplements. Most people will have to do this if only because of the B12 requirement, if they plan to follow a raw vegan diet for a number of years.

Yoga for kids

Yoga for kids

Yoga for Kids

I learned and taught a bit of Yoga for kids this morning. I happened upon a great way to do exercise with the kids. My daughter was standing with her arms out and her left leg on her right knee, I am not sure exactly how I knew it but I told her that she was doing the tree pose in Yoga.

Yoga for Kids – With Parents

My daughter of course did not believe me, few kids seem to believe old people. Anyway we went to the Yoga Journal website and took a look at all of the different poses. My daughter is a bit of a yoga practitioner as we have a couple of Yoga tapes that she has been able to sample.

My daughter and I did Yoga this way: We would find a pose with a good name, look at the pose and then try it out. Kids are very flexible so more often than not Taylor was able to do the pose somewhat and I was struggling quite a bit.

So there are many ways to learn and do Yoga with your kids. You don’t have to know how to do Yoga and you can learn while your kids learn. Isn’t that a great change where we get to discover something new with our kids. Go online, Look on Youtube, Try Yoga on the Wii, or just get a Yoga book.

The great thing about this exercise session is that my daughter and I had a great time doing some exercise and she also learned that she is better at some sports than me. I can usually run faster, ride further and lift more than she can at the age of six but here is something where Taylor is very flexible, has great balance and knows just about as much as I do when it comes to Yoga for kids.

Best Ways to Quit Smoking

Best Ways to Quit Smoking

Best Ways to Quit Smoking

Best ways to quit smoking are what lots of people are looking for when quitting. There are many ways to quit smoking but regardless of your reasons you will need to either quit by tapering off or quiting cold turkey.

There is of course a good strategy for both of these methods of quiting smoking. And I would like to flesh out these two methods to quit smoking and then I will let you decide which is best with my bit of ideas.

Best Ways to Quit Smoking

So If you want to know the best ways to quit smoking and want to try tapering off to quit smoking here is how to do it. First take a day and answer a few questions. When do you smoke? How many cigarrettes do you smoke in the morning? In the afternoon? In the evening? When do you have a real urge to smoke? Now that you have this list you need a plan. You want to start your first day with a victory so you will plan the first day cutting down by not feeling guilty about smoking but instead smoking when you really need it. Make a goal of how many smokes you will have that first day and then you can go to bed on that first night knowing that you did well.

Every day after this you wnat a goal and you will start to need a way to cope with not smoking during the days and nights that you really have a nic fit and an urge to smoke. Eventually you will be down to just 5 cigarettes or so a day and one day you will have to make that leap to being a non smoker.

Best Ways to Quit Smoking – Cold Turkey

The other of the best ways to quit smoking is to just quit cold turkey. To quit cold turkey you need to do the same as above. You will start with one day where you just smoke as usual and write down when you smoke and why. What are your triggers and when are you times that you really struggle and feel the stress of needing to smoke.

Once you have figured this out you set a date and get rid of all of those smoking paraphernalia. You need to get rid of all cigarettes, ashtrays, lighters, actually anything that reminds you of smoking or makes you more comfortable to smoke. Also it is important to stay away from smoking situations like bars, smoking restaurants and in those smoking spots that we all see and look for when we look for a place to smoke.

On that first day without tabacco, cigarettes and nicotine expect to have conflicting emotions about your decision to quit. Quitting is hard but if you give yourself the chance you will be able to quit smoking easily enough and after just a few weeks you will have the confidence to not think of yourself as a smoker anymore and then you will really be a non-smoker.

If you want to know a product or two I have also written a page on the best way to stop smoking as well with some things that will make the struggle easier.

So what is the best way to quit smoking? I have tried a few times and was always unsuccessful but finally I stopped smoking by going cold turkey and have now been quit for 12 years. Realistically, as you may have figured out the best ways to quit smoking are really to quit the best and most convenient way for your lifestyle.
