Running Into A New Year

Up here in Calgary the weather has been nice although only a little cold over the last couple weeks. I have been on holidays so have not really been at the gym getting exercise and instead have been trying to get workouts in and cardio done outdoors. I am sure I will be kicking myself for not pushing harder in a couple of weeks but the change of pace has been nice.

Now that we are into the new year everyone’s new years resolutions will kick in today. The gyms will be busy with lots of people signing up, talk at work will be about healthy eating and exercise and the will that things have changed for good but come the end of January most of the talkers will have become silent as the excitement of health, exercise, muscle soreness, and loss will have disappeared and forgotten.

The next few weeks will be critically important for you and the basis to me for continuing after things have lost their excitement is to not lose the excitement in the first place. Do the following and see if it changes your life for the better.

Running Into A New Year

Drink lots of water every day and watch yourself lose a few pounds in the next week.

Try working out morning and night. Two workouts a day will get you busy, make you feel great, and give you unbounded energy that you have not felt since you were a kid.

Watch or read some biographies about people that have made great changes in their life and prospered from it, this will make you realize that although everyone around you may decide the pain is not worth it that you can make these changes yourself for yourself.

When you are doing workouts make sure that you do not overdo it. The biggest reason that people stop working out with weightsis that they get really sore from the workouts and our mind is not a big fan of pain continuing over pain. Take it easy but consistently work with the weights and you will get stronger and turn your body into a fat burning machine.

When doing Cardio workouts make sure that you get to do a few different things and please avoid anything to do with running over the first few weeks. Running is very hard on your joints and even though it is fantastic exercise it is really easy to overdo the running and have sore knees, ankles, quads and calves for a few days. This kind of pain as well will kill motivation and not help you continue on your new lifestyle.

Eat great and eat often. Eat 5 or 6 small meals a day to jump start your metabolism. This may make as much difference to your attitude and energy as anything. And make sure you are getting a little bit of extra protein in as well to help heal those sore muscles.
