How to Workout in Less Time

Everyone should learn the basics of how to workout in less time. One of the real problems that I have seen with people is a lack of a good plan when getting started in a gym. You look at the big loud guys, see what exercises they are doing and subconsciously or not you start doing the same things. Of course the big guys are breaking their body parts up and working each set until failure with lots of long breaks between sets.

Often you don’t need long rest between sets and you never need to spend more than 45 minutes doing a weight workout, in fact mine usually take me about 30 minutes. I think lots of people would like to know how to workout faster.

So here are some rules on how to workout in less time.

1. Start with a weight based warmup – I start by doing one easy set of each (usually with machines) bench press, shoulder press, lat pulldowns, rowing. Many people will start with 5 or 10 minutes on a bike, treadmill, or elliptical trainer to get the blood flowing and that is perfectly fine too but I like to engage the muscles.

2. Do weight workouts faster – Sure we need a break between working our individual muscles but a great way to workout in less time, get more done, and get your heart working, is to do exercises back to back. There are two methods to do this circuit training and supersetting and you can really mix these up between workouts. I personally work all my muscles in each workout three times a week.

Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle
burn the fat feed the muscle is an exercise and diet program. My review of Burn the Fat shows that it is designed and written by an ex-pro natural bodybuilder but is a system that was written for regular guys and gals. Teaching you how to workout and eat to lose weight.

3. Cooldown and abs – I like to do my stretching after the workout and do a few sets of abs

Then I am done. The biggest part of the time of my workout is spent doing the actual weights and the best way to save time while doing the weights is either those supersets or the circuit training so I will explain how I do those here. Just to let you know I do both of these forms of exercise actively, I will do one for a few weeks and then switch to the other for a few weeks just because mixing it up with your muscles is so important to keeping interested and making gains continue without plateaus eating up your time.

Circuit Training To Workout in Less Time

Circuit training simply means that you are doing one long set or sets to work all your muscles. As you go between exercise you do not take a break and by the end of the set of sets you are exhausted and it probably takes 8-10 minutes to go through each one of these circuits. This is the first and most common method of how to workout in less time.

I like to start with my legs, chest, back, shoulders, biceps, and triceps, in that order. There reason for this is that as you get more tired and winded it is harder to work your big muscles like legs or back or chest near the end. Also after doing back your biceps are a bit tired and after doing shoulders or chest your triceps are tired so I leave those until the end.

Here is a sample circuit training set

Leg press, leg curls, bench press, seated rows, shoulder press, alternating curls, tricep pushdowns.

All of these exercises would be sets of 1o or so and almost until exhaustion (make sure you have the weight that you can’t do another rep after the set) and make sure you are doing each rep at a decently slow rate. You want to get the workout done fast but each set should be done slowly. There is very little break between exercises and after your set you will really want to take a few minutes before the next long set and get a good long drink of water as well.

Do two or three of these sets. for your workout.

Supersets To Workout in Less Time

Supersets are another way to get more done quickly. I will do two exercises back to back and then move to two other exercises. the idea is that I am exhausting the muscle group much quicker and by the end the muscles do really hurt. This is similar in time to circuit training but much more focussed for each set of two muscle groups.

Here is a sample superset workout

I will start with chest and back in this example and I don’t usually do legs in my supersets as they are tough enough on their own. I will so bench press and seated rows only for these two exercises and try and really kill it. I do a set of bench press with a fairly heavy weight for 8 or 10 reps and then as soon as I get finished I will move to the seated rows and do the same, after that set I go back to the bench, raise the weight by 20 pounds and do maybe 7-9 reps as I am more tired but my chest really has not recovered so I am not as strong yet. Then I go to the seated rows and just the same add 20 pounds and get as many reps as I can.

Those are the first two parts of the bigger set. Now that I am winded I will go back to the bench with the same weight on still and get as many reps as I can. At this point my chest is really tired and I can shoot for about 5 or 6 reps at most and then strip off the 20 pounds that I had added earlier and get another 3 or 4 reps out. My chest is burning and I am done with that. I then limp over to the seated row and do the same with a few reps, stripping some weight, and then getting a few more reps in.

I then take a break and do the same thing with a rotation of shoulder press, tricep pushdowns. Take a break and then do a mini circuit of abs and biceps.

Doing the Supersets like this is very taxing and I am always really sore the next day but if I try doing to many workouts like this I start really losing my motivation. It is really hard to do effectively for a long time.

As you can see from these examples there are a few ways to really change things up in your workout and in the end I am still able to work my whole body in one workout without spending too much time at the gym and really making the most of the time.

By trying circuit training or superset style workouts like this is the secret of how to workout in less time and really make you work for it. Try it out and tell us what you think of these methods below

Quick Workout For Women

Who says getting flat belly and getting physically fit are only for men? Workout plan for women  are also popular. Maybe back in 1950’s and the years before that where women weren’t really into physical fitness, but not anymore. More than ever, women are into working out.

Getting Fit

Today, women are into staying healthy and physically fit and this is evident by the number of women we see who devote some of their time going to the gym and other fitness center. This change is the result of the strong influence of the media. Women see those actresses and models show off their nice flat belly and strive to have that kind of body too. And that is where the problem starts.

Women start to ask around how they can lose weight, get rid of those excessive body parts and finally have those flat belly. They start searching online to find workout plans and other weight loss strategies that will help them with this dilemma. Luckily, after years and years of fitness training and studies, fitness experts have come up with workout plans that will suit the needs of women specifically.

Although women are very different from men, physically and mentally, the things that they have to consider when it comes to working out are not far from men. Men require having a proper diet while working out, so do women. Men need a good workout plan that can provide the required results, same is required in workouts for women. The only big difference women have when it comes to working out is the intensity of the workout plans that each group follows. I said that because while most men seem to have the endurance required to do heavy trainings such as the popular heavy weight lifting exercise, most women just don’t have that kind of endurance. I said most, not all, as there are women that are much stronger and are able to take more than your average man.

Quick Workout, Just A Few Minutes Per Day

The following are some exercises to include in your workout or you can just do these alone. Before you begin though, make sure you hydrate. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day will not only help you get toxins out of your body faster and help lose more fat but also will help you prevent bad breath by keeping your mouth moist. This is convenient because as you work out you tend to breath hard through the mouth and if there are people around you, it could turn into a social problem for you.

Lets get started.

1. The ab crunches.

The ab crunches are not some kind of snacks. It is in fact a form of exercise that is done by bending the knee, with your hand at the back of your head (or cross them in front of you if you prefer) not touching your head with your hand, slowly lifting your head and shoulders up and leaning forward until your shoulder are off the ground for a few inches, and then, slowly lowering yourself back down, but not letting your head touch the ground. Repeat the process as many times as you want. This exercise targets the fats in your abdominal muscles, legs, and makes the backbone and arms strong.

2. Do the Quadriceps.

To do the quadriceps you need a dumbbell. This type of exercise is performed by holding a dumbbell in the right hand next to the shoulder, with the arm bent. Stepping forward with your right leg, lower your body until your right knee is bent close to 90 degrees and your left knee almost touching the ground. Then push yourself back to the starting position. Repeat the steps from the beginning, but this time, use your left hand to hold the weight and your left leg to step forward. This kind of exercise benefits your hips and abs, help improve your body balance and help burn your excessive fats.

A Few Things to Remember

These exercises are ideal for every workout plan for women. Fitness experts believed these to be the most essential exercises that can produce fast results in the minimum amount be done alternately by every woman  to get nice and flat belly. And the good thing about them is that they can be performed in the comfort of your home. But you should know that these great exercises won’t be effective without a proper diet.  Thus your workout plan and a proper diet should always work together.

Effective Steps to Building Muscle

I found this article at Virtual trainer.com. There is a link at the bottom of the page for the site but I thought I would let you know about it here. These are sometimes obvious but great tips for building muscle.

When you think of building muscle you tend to think of huge freaky physiques that you see in the some of the muscle mags. The years and hours of hard work these men and women have put into training their bodies to achieve these types of results is inspirational. Maybe YOU also want build massive muscles, or maybe you want to increase muscle but without getting as muscular as that. You can! There are different stages of building muscle which is what I am going to talk about today.

Building Muscle for Toning

You can build muscle for muscle tone. Using lighter weights and more repetitions you can achieve a toned appearance without bulking up. If building Muscle for Body Shaping and Sculpting your weights will need to be slightly heavier for some body parts yet lighter for others. Being able to transform your current body type by using resistance or weight training is exciting and possible.

Body Building / BIG Muscle Mass

To create large amounts of muscle growth you need to damage the muscle to a certain extreme for your muscles to respond, repair and grow into strong, healthy muscles. Using heavy weights damages the muscle sufficiently to create this type of muscle damage.

Training to Build Muscle

This varies on your goals of what you want your body to look like. Using a program that is suited to your body type and goals is very important when trying to build muscle of any kind. Don’t expect to reach your goals by just turning up at a gym and messing around with a few weights and hoping for the best. If you want maximum results from your training program then you should get yourself a training program that will get you long-term effective results.

Eating to Build Muscle

This depends on what your goals are. If you are wanting to build huge muscles you will need to consume more calories. You will need a healthy eating program which includes all of the food groups. You will also need to make sure you have sufficient protein and carbohydrates to help you get through your training and for healthy repair of your muscles. If you were still wanting to build lean muscle and aren’t too keen on too much muscle size then you may want to reduce your calories and fat and arrange your diet to fit in with your fat burning training goals. If light toning and fat loss is what you are after then you will once again also need to carefully watch your calorie and fat intake, while still ensuring that your body gets sufficient nutrition. No matter what your training goals are never starve yourself. Regular meals through out the day are very important.

Starting Your Muscle Building Program

1. You don’t need a lot of equipment, even dumbbells on their own are great to start with.
2. Make sure you have a program to follow that suits your needs and gives you sufficient instructions on how to perform your exercises.
3. When performing your exercises keep your knees slightly bent, your back straight and your tummy firm, even when you are performing seated exercises you need to make sure you have good posture.
4. Don’t swing your weights about. If you are finding that you are swinging your body around to lift your weights then you should lower the weights until you are ready to advance.
5. Perform your exercises correctly. If, as I mentioned above, that you have to swing your body or your weights around then you are probably more likely to be giving your lower back a crappy workout rather than the body part you thought you were training. Don’t waste precious training time by not using good form while training.
6. Always keep a water bottle near by so have easy access to fluids while training. This will keep you from dehydrating.
7. Make sure you perform a warm up before training and cool down after wards. While your muscles are still warm, after your cool down, you may like to perform your stretches.
8. Sleep! You need to have sufficient sleep to ensure your body has time to repair itself and recover from your days training and general activities.
9. Organise your eating plan ahead of time so that you can have your meals on hand. This will help prevent you from consuming junk as well as keeping up with regular meal times.
10. Protein. You will need sufficient protein intake in your diet to help supplement your muscle development. Protein shakes are fantastic for this. For more info on this read my “article” on protein.
