Panic Attack Symptoms

With the number of people suffering from panic attacks in the millions, it seems this problem is more common than you originally thought. If you feel you may have had panic attacks yourself but you are not really sure, read on to see if any of these symptoms sound all too familiar.

First off, keep in mind that you may not experience all these symptoms. Everyone is different and may experience things in different ways. The following are the most common panic attack symptoms:

* tight feeling in the chest
* increased heart rate
* hot flushed feeling
* excessive sweating or clamminess
* shortness of breath
* hyperventilating
* nausea
* muscle tension
* dizziness
* terror
* fear of impending doom

For many people, the first time they experience a panic attack they feel like they’re having a heart attack or are dying. They’re rushed to the hospital only to find that their heart is fine and the doctors can’t find anything physically wrong. If the idea of panic attacks is not brought up, they’re left feeling that something is wrong with them and they begin to visit different medical doctors trying to determine what it is.

Panic attacks occur when the “fight or flight” adrenaline goes into overdrive. Your body believes that it is about to be attacked and brings forth all the responses that would go along with a seriously dangerous situation. The trouble is, the event at hand does not warrant this behavior. Yes, you know your fear is way out of proportion but you are unable to stop it. You can say to yourself, “This is silly, I’m just going to drive on this freeway for 5 miles as I’ve done many times in the past” but your body reacts anyway.

Even scarier is realizing that these attacks can happen at any time. Some people wake up in the middle of the night with them or have them occur when doing something as benign as watching TV.

It is commonly believed that panic attack disorder can be triggered by any of the following:

* stress, situational or long-term
* hormones
* post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
* possibly excessive sugar or caffeine

The worst part is anticipating or worrying that you will have another panic attack. In fact, the worry can be enough to bring on a panic attack. Added to that it seems each episode is burned into your brain and you feel if you’re in the same situation or location, you will surely have another episode. Because of this you start avoiding these situations or locations. But avoidance behavior is not the answer.

If these symptoms ring true for you, seek answers. You don’t have to continue to suffer from panic attacks, there is treatment available.

Breathing exercises

Breathing is as you already know a very important action. All of us tend to breath very shallow and during any kind of exertion we will find that our chest gets sore because of a lack of stretching of our chest breathing deeply.

There are many benefits to proper breathing experts say it reduces the effects of stress, a leading cause of physical woes. Slow, deep breathing can lower blood pressure, end heart irregularities, improve poor digestion and decrease anxiety.

  1. Lie down or sit in a comfortable chair, maintaining good posture. Your body should be as relaxed as possible. Close your eyes. Scan your body for tension.
  2. Pay attention to your breathing. Place one hand on the part of your chest or abdomen that seems to rise and fall the most with each breath. If this spot is in your chest you are not utilizing the lower part of your lungs.
  3. Breathe in through your nose.
  4. Notice if your chest is moving in harmony with your abdomen.
  5. Now place one hand on your abdomen and one on your chest.
  6. Inhale deeply and slowly through your nose into your abdomen. You should feel your abdomen rise with this inhalation and your chest should move only a little. Do this inhaling for a count of 2
  7. Hold your breath and hold it for a count of 8
  8. Exhale through your mouth, keeping your mouth, tongue, and jaw relaxed. Let the exhale last for a count of 4.
  9. Of course these breath numbers are based on taking a comfortable deep breath. The ratio of 1:4:2 is

the number of breaths that you are looking for and you should try to do this breathing method for 10 cycles 3 times per day. If this is not convenient you can also do breathing while commuting, watching TV or even in a meeting as long as your breathing is not distracting to others

This may seem a lot like the breathing that we do for meditation and it is somewhat related. The one thing that is different is that this should be a way of retraining ourselves to breathe better all of the time.

Child Obesity

Child obesity is a growing concern in many areas of the world. If you are concerned that your child is gaining too much weight then it is important to have him or her monitored by a physician. Listed below are a few things to look out for. Be sure to take note of any areas where you as a parent could be contributing to your child’s obesity.

Is Your Child Ignorant To Active Lifestyle?

If you find your child putting on weight, then it is very probable that an unhealthy lifestyle or bad eating habits could be the major contributing cause of the weight gain. Ignorance as far as exercising is concerned can prove very bad for your child’s health. If you notice your child opting for indoor activity rather than outdoor activity this could be a major sign that your child is not getting adequate exercise. From the start, make physical activities like swimming, cycling or any other sport a part of your child’s lifestyle.

Here are a few other things to be aware of:

Don’t let your child eat unhealthy food on a regular basis. This will result in obesity. Instead offer healthy meal snacks and limit the pizzas and other fast foods.

Avoid appeasing them with finger licking snacks while they are watching TV or playing video games.

Stop yourself from pampering them excessively and fulfilling their every stubborn snack wish. Or make sure to only give them snacks that are healthy. This way if they eat their snack you will know that they were really hungry and not just wanting junk food.

Bad eating habits, unnecessary bingeing on food and an inactive lifestyle are the major causes of childhood obesity. It’s important to analyze your child’s acts and take action to steer him or her away from childhood obesity. Involve your child in physical exercises, avoid exorbitant fast food, encourage food habits and prevent excessive hangouts at malls and snack huts. Your child will thank you when he or she is older.
