Quest Natural Protein Bar Review

Quest nutrition sent me a box of their protein bars a little while ago to try out and I have to say that I really enjoyed them.

I have eaten protein bars on and off for years and they certainly are a great way to keep your nutrition up and to recover from workouts so over the years I have tried dozens of different bars and am proud of it. A good protein bar will fill me up and aid me in recovery from exercise and depending on the size they tend to be low in calories

If you want to know more about the Quest protein bars in particular I can tell you that they are very good. When shopping for bars in the past I have found that the protein bars that you buy at your local grocery store are usually made from pretty poor quality ingredients. Usually you will find bars with crappy quality protein and sweetened with sugar, not much better than a candy bar.

Is the Quest Natural Protein Bar Good for You?

Quest Natural Protein Bar ReviewHonestly, no one in my house likes protein bars so I got to eat them all (except two) and firstly the flavor was very good. Usually protein bars come in chocolate or some kind of chocolate variation but these bars came in flavors like apple pie, cinnamon roll, coconut cashew, and Strawberry Cheesecake. I have been nervous to try the Strawberry Cheesecake protein bar since I don’t like cheesecake. All of the bars that I tried tasted really great.

Next is the fillingness of the bars. One of the reasons that you are eating a bar like these is to try and use it as a meal replacement and the reason that a chocolate bar or other snack is not a good meal replacement is two-fold, first the nutrition is not usually there and secondly it does not fill you up. The Quest Natural Protein bar is very chewy so it takes time to eat and has 17 grams of fiber so it is filling for a longer time.

I am not saying here that you should live on protein bars, we all need fruits and veggies and the micro nutrients that come from the fresh food that we eat but these bars are great for post workout muscle repair and I find that instead of looking for crappy food to eat these bars come in handy.

So going back to my earlier point about the crap nutrition that most protein bars have I can tell you that the Quest Protein bars are quite a bit better, unbelievablly they have things like almonds, strawberries, and whey protein in them so they are definitely more healthy then some gunk made in a lab instead of food based products.

Do I recommend these Protein bars?

The bar I have in my hand right now is the Strawberry Cheesecake and it is 60 grams (a normal candy bar is about 45 grams), and it has 20 grams of protein which is a meal worth, and is a total of 160 calories. Plus this bar has 17 grams of fiber which is the amount an average American gets a day total even though we should be getting more like 35-40 grams. So nutritionally this is pretty packed with nutrients.

I was not really sure if I was looking at the Quest Nutrition Protein bars as a normal person would, and by normal I mean someone that has not eaten a lot of protein bars in the past so I started looking at reviews and it seems I am not alone in my love for these bars. They taste great, they are filling as a meal replacement, and they are good for you as well.

I have to say that I am very thankful that these guys turned me on to their bars, the Quest Natural Protein bar is great and great for you

Looking back and forward

Just wanted to shoot out a quick email today to give you a maybe tough but really important weekend task.

After a long Summer of fun and vacations I am back online and at the gym hard and heavy. Personally I have been looking this Summer at what works, what motivates people and what makes the difference between success and failure. And wanted to share a bit of that with you today.

Looking back and forwardYou probably know exactly what I am talking about. You start a workout plan, or a diet, or a job search and after a few days you lose interest. It is not only disappointing but I think it weighs down on you the next time you try something new or challenging and right off the bat wonder if YOU can in fact achieve.

How I once Quit Smoking

I remember back when I smoked cigarettes it was the same thing. You try to quit and after a few days nothing seems to have changed and you lose interest. Eventually some trigger in your brain switches and you succeed. It happened to me w2hen I quit smoking, that was a lot of years ago but just want to tell a bit about that story.

I would quit and start, cut down and start, research the best methods and quit and start. Nothing worked and I hated myself for failing. The real change that came was when I just decided that quitting was not important but changing my life was.

So here we are entering the weekend after labor day and I have to wonder if you are looking back on your Summer like me and getting ready for the fall and Christmas (107 shopping days left).

What You Have to Do Now

So maybe this weekend, or even today look longer out. I am sure you do not want to get in shape or lose weight for a dress, some clothes, or to run through the malls faster and more effectively. Look deep down instead, what is your real motivator? Once you have a motivator then sacrifice is not sacrifice. Skipping a chocolate bar, going to a gym, grabbing a smoothie instead of a hamburger is a lot easier.

I started my blog and these posts years ago just to help people get in better shape and it has turned from trying to help 100 people to now being something that consumes me. I know why I do this and wake up in the morning wondering how I can affect the lives of more people. I want to know how I can help you. But first, look deep and see what you really want.

Meal Sizes and Frequency

Meal sizes and frequency are very important. Over the years people are amazed by how much food I eat at work in a day and part of this can probably be explained by decent genetics but more importantly I make sure that I have a higher metabolism by eating more smaller meals.

Most people will eat Breakfast lunch and dinner or even less often as in the case of my parents where the only real meals are breakfast and dinner. I on the other hand eat at 7:30, 10:00 12:00 3:00 5:30 and 8:00. I have been eating six times a day for years. My only large meal is dinner the other feedings are smaller snacks even lunch and breakfast.

There are a few reasons to eat small meals often:

  • One reason to eat a smaller meal is that your body can not metabolize as much food as the average North American eats so some is wasted and some is stored as fat.
  • Secondly, if you go a long time between meals your body stores food as fat to get you between meals when your blood sugar drops.
  • Thirdly, you blood sugar will fluctuate a lot during the day if you have a big meal then a long break and then another meal and you will feel your energy constantly going up and down.
  • Fourthly, you can really vary what you eat and enjoy food more when you do not have four or five things to eat at a time.

Here is a sample of what my day will have for food:

7:30 Bagel and Natural Peanut Butter
10:00 Apple, protein bar, coke
12:00 Frozen lunch entrée or leftovers from last nights dinner
3:00 banana, chocolate bar and a granola bar
5:30 a regular dinner, Meat, vegetables and maybe desert
8:00 popcorn or fruit

You will notice that this is not the best diet, I really have some work to do still but the meals are spaced and the sizes are smaller.

One of the most important ways to look at food and meals is that you should eat six meals a day and each of these meals should have about 30 grams of protein and 50 grams of carbohydrates. This kind of meal is important as it will give you the energy you need to get through a great day including a hard workout. With a meal this size as well you should not gain weight and you should not waste any protein, your body can assimilate this much protein every three hours or so.
