Running for Beginners

Running for beginners is one of the best forms of exercise. It is a great cardiovascular exercise that almost anyone can do. It doesn’t cost much either, since all you need is a good pair of running shoes. Here are a few running tips for beginners to help get you started.

Get Motivated To Run

When you think of all the health benefits that running provides, you won’t need a lot of prodding to start running. It only takes a minimum of 30 minutes at least three times a week to improve your cardiovascular health, lose excess weight, and stay fit. Before you know it, you’ll be joining 5K runs or even a marathon.

When starting a running routine, be sure to take it slow at first in order to avoid injuries. It’s a good idea to run at your own pace and take a walking break when necessary. Gradually build up your endurance until you are able to run for 30 minutes without stopping.

Get The Necessary Running Gear

Running for Beginners

The best part about running is that you don’t need a lot of gear to get started. The most important piece of running gear for beginners is a good pair of running shoes. Your shoes should fit well and provide the support and cushioning your feet need for a comfortable and injury-free run. There are different types of shoes suitable for pronators, supinators, cushioning, trail running, etc. Go to a specialty running store and have someone there help you find the perfect pair.

You will also need running apparel made of performance fabric to keep you cool/warm, dry and comfortable.

Don’t Ignore Pain

Beginning runners often have sore leg muscles, especially during the first week of running. Stick with a routine and pace that helps eliminate the pain, and if the pain gets too bad be sure to stop and rest for a few days. To avoid common running injuries, be sure to wear proper footwear and comfortable clothes. Do not overdo your training.

Runners often get side stitches. To get rid of side stitches, take a deep breath and bend over at the waist while exhaling.

Stay Hydrated

An important running tip for beginners is to stay hydrated and drink more than you would normally drink. Before starting out on your run, drink a few ounces of water. A hydration belt and water bottles will allow you to carry water that you can drink on the way. Drink more water after your run.

Train With A Buddy

Running for beginners is more enjoyable if you have a buddy who can run with you. Set short-term and long-term goals and hold each other accountable. When you have a running buddy, you’ll be more inclined to stick with your exercise routine.

Can Anyone Do Zumba?

Can Anyone Do Zumba? Zumba exercises are being touted as the newest fun way to lose weight, Zumba instructors call it “exercise in disguise”, but this doesn’t mean that Zumba is easy. On the contrary, Zumba will leave you panting and sweating as you get going. So is it suitable for everyone?

Can Anyone Do Zumba?

Zumba classes are fantastic for bringing people of all shapes, sizes and ages together. The key premise is to have fun, and the workouts are suitable for just about everyone. Kids are even invited to certain Zumba classes! Even if you’re very overweight, you can take it at your own pace until your stamina improves.

If you’re pregnant, Zumba exercises are still a possibility. However, it all depends on your level of activity before you became pregnant. If you’re not used to aerobic exercise then it’s not usually a good idea to start during pregnancy. Always ask your doctor before proceeding.

What About Older Participants?
Zumba Gold classes have been designed specifically with the older generation in mind. It’s the same premise, just slightly altered to suit the fitness levels of the baby boomers. For those who have specific physical issues, it’s a good idea to ask your instructor before you begin. Many are happy to advise you on how to take part in a regular Zumba class at your own pace. Some classes are even designed to be followed from the comfort of a chair, if you need to.

If You Know You’re Out Of Shape…
If you’re out of shape, that is you don’t regularly exercise and find you get tired out quickly, then you should always approach any new form of exercise with caution. Listen to your body, and know your own limits. Yes, you will probably be tired out after a Zumba session, but you’ll notice the improvements week on week. Remember, if you’re in any doubt you should always visit a doctor for advice.

What About Zumba At Home?
There are a variety of Zumba games and DVDs that’ll teach you how to do the Zumba exercises from home. These are generally safe, and are often designed at a more basic level than some Zumba classes. The main risk with an at-home option is that you may not have the motivation to really push yourself to burn those calories! If you do decide to do Zumba at home, the same rules as above still apply: listen to your body, and visit a doctor if you experience any problems.

So they answer to Can Anyone Do Zumba? is in fact yes although you want to be careful of the class that you do take.

Believe

Not gonna lie, even though I’m self-employed I still get excited for the weekend. I feel energized and motivated. There are (usually) no looming deadlines, it’s just a nice couple of days to relax and work at my own pace. With that said, I would like to bottle this feeling up and spread it throughout the week.

I also know that dinner out with my husband will happen along with a trip to David’s Bridal to get a jacket for the wedding I’m going to be in, in two weeks. Two weeks! I have some wedding prep to do, such as feet + nails, self-tan (my legs are scary white), and exercise daily. I miss posting my food here, so I will do that as well. I joined myfitnesspal.com and can be found under the user name “lorriebee” for daily food updates.

I am pushing my Wear it Well Spring course back another week. But, this is the last week. It’s going to be awesome and I want it to be even better than my fall course.

Happy Weekend!
