Yummy Valentine’s

wildflour Yummy Valentines

We spent Valentine’s lunch at Wildflour in Roanoke yesterday. I like the idea of a late lunch and early dinner to miss the Valentine’s Day crowds. As a result, we got a good table and fast service.

I had the tilapia gordita with sweet potato fries and spicy ketchup. A-maz-ing!

Josh had the club on sour dough bread. Of course, I suggested that we go havsies on everything. Good call, because that was one of the top sandwiches of my life. They make their own bread, how can you go wrong with that? Sadly, we were both too full for one of their bakery made desserts.

If you ever find yourself in southwest Virginia’s largest city, please, please go to Wildflour. You won’t regret it.

After lunch we headed next door for a book sale and then a trip to the Fresh Market. Fancy grocery shopping is a huge treat for me. I’m positive I could easily spend a thousand dollars at the fresh market.

I hope you have a lovely day, Valentine or not, I think it’s a nice day to treat ourselves.

I’ve been working away at my Wear it Well Spring 2012 ecourse. I’ve hired a writer/editor to help me with copy. Thanks Sarah! And I took a few minutes to make this sneak peek video:

I couldn’t be happier with the results!

I’m also offering a $5 discount and a day early release for those who join my Wear it Well Mailing list!

Done

This is me waving my white flag to the universe. I am done being sick. I’m tired of being sick. I’ve tried pretending that I’m not sick- showing up half-assed to meetings, my work, and everything else, but I’m not there. I’m half there. My body is present, but I’m not me.

I’m tired. I’m fatigued. I’m coughing. My ears are stopped up. My head is full. And I’m tired mostly, of being sick. I try very hard not to tweet “I’m sick. I feel like crap. I’m still coughing.” even though sometimes I want nothing more than to curl up on the couch with blankets, the remote and a cup of hot tea. Guilt free.

I want a break from responsibility, my to-do lists, I want to check-out and sleep. But, I can’t, because people depend on me and I have deadlines. But, like my last posts said, I’m done with over extending myself. With stress. With piling more stuff on my plate. I know, deep-down that this sickness is my body forcing me to slow down. And I’m fighting it tooth and nail. Because I just want to go, go, go.

Here is one of the books I’m reading:

And it’s speaking to me. Because I don’t want to be sick anymore, and because I don’t want to be depressed, and I really don’t want to be sick down the road. If I’m annoyed at a seven week cough, I just don’t know how I’d handle diabetis, cancer or heart disease. I’d check out.

So I’m going on a special “diet”, I’m trying this out for a month.  I say diet loosely because this isn’t all about weight loss. And it’s not about eating anything I don’t like to eat. It’s about eat less of the stuff that I know makes me sick. Weight loss is a perk, I won’t lie, but I just want to be well. I want to feel well and be less sick.

Time to go grocery shopping…

Home Again

Yesterday (tuesday) we were back on our home schedule. We ate at home and did our usual insanity workout. As much as I love to eat out, it gets tiresome and is never as healthy (or as cheap) as eating at home. I like knowing exactly what’s in my food.

Yesterday morning was my usual banana nut muffin (a commenter asked if I make these and the answer is yes) 200 calories

Lunch was a boca burger with whole wheat bun, 1/2 t mayo, dark lettuce, and 1/2 oz. jalapeno cheese. 400 calories.

Dinner was a vegetable burrito: black beans, tomatoes with chili peppers, spinach, avocado. Used lots of cumin on this with a little sea salt on a spinach wrap. 570 calories (the wrap had 340)

snack: muffin with local/organic strawberries, 220 calories

Total calories for the day: 1,390

Exercise: 40 minutes of insanity workout (400-600 calories burned)

I went grocery shopping with a goal and budget in mind: all organic, as much local as possible and under $55 dollars. I spent about $48 on this:

1 pound local ground beef

2 organic avocados

bunch of organic/fair trade bananas

basket of local/organic strawberries

1 package organic/nitrate-free bacon

4 local/organic yams

2 lbs. organic basmati rice

1 package all natural spinach wraps (vegan)

1 bag local/organic spinach

1 bag local/organic lettuce
