Gratitude, Thankfulness, and Forgivness

This one thing has everything to do with the way you look at your life and how you treat others and I think that it can make a huge difference internally to the way you look at yourself and those around you

Gratitude, thankfulness, and forgiveness will change your life

We all live a life judging others, judging ourselves and trying to change people to conform with the views and opinions that we have. Well maybe not always but often anyway. We all know what is right and wrong for certain things and with others we are not so sure. That’s just human nature. The times I see that in myself are in the times that I “think” that I am sure of the truth and at the same time I find I don’t judge or try to change opinions in places that I do not have a hard and fast view.

I have found though that it is important to break down the ego and look at gratitude, thankfulness, and forgiveness as much as I can so that I can be open to change and learn  more from others, this brings me to a higher, better consiousness and a far better place to accept myself and see my own flaws.

The ego is the enemy more than anything. So how do we do these things?

Gratitude – To have gratitude we have to see where we are and what we have in our lives that is good. Everyone can harp on their weight, bad job, unsupportive people in their lives, but really this does not ever help us to move forward. Instead try and make sure that you are always and only looking at the best of things in your life. Sure you can change things in your life but if you are always looking at the crap in your life it is hard to move forward.

So always be grateful for the great things, situation, and people in your life as an anchor. Many people use a gratitude journal or just write down once a day the 10 things that they are grateful for at that very moment

Thankfulness – In all areas of your life you have to promote the people and situations that you are in at that very moment. This is really thankfulness. I personally look at gratitude as being the whole of my life and thankfulness at the little things at that instant to be thankful for. The sunny day, the guy that lets me in in traffic, the kids listening to me, and especially a big hug from my wife. Thankfulness is critical to making sure that you understand that life is not going through the motions but is instead a fantastic bunch of little situations and events that make a life full.

Forgiveness – This is a hard thing for most people, me included. Forgiveness simply means that no matter what happens bad in your life you are willing to forgive the person that did it. You can’t hold onto anger, fear and resentment in your life as it will harden you and suck out the great emotions in life and instead fill you with sadness and hatred.

So that guy that bumps ahead of you in line, he’s probably in a big hurry, forgive. The coworker that puts you down in a meeting, they have ego issues, forgive. The kids drinking next door and keeping the neighborhood awake late into a Saturday night, they are having fun and don’t even realize people are hoping to sleep, forgive them.

Forgiveness is the toughest of the three here because you are hurt by the situation and often the other person is not at all. Forgiveness as I said though is critical because you can never move forward if you are resenting others, believe me I tried.

For anyone that is a Christian or Jewish, or Muslim this is not news. Religion has taught these truths for thousands of years but that fact is that most people don’t actually practice these in their day to day lives. I am sure, actually I can promise you, that If you integrate gratitude, thankfulness, and forgiveness into your daily life if will really change you and help you move forward.

Making December Count

I have already started to see the emails and blogs posts and even new stories about New Years Resolutions for next year. Very sad, we live for today and already supposed to look at a month or 13 from now?

Anyway, by my watch there are still a few weeks left in the year, actually 24 days if we start from tomorrow. Plenty of time yet to finish the year with a bang.

Making December Count

Making December Count

So this is my plan and I hope you try it out too. I know that it is easier to succeed if there is a finite time than a huge time limit, so maybe this is our time to jumpstart before the new year even gets here.

Here is the plan for Making December Count

1. Look over your goals from the beginning of the year or try to remember back if you did not write them down. Are they relevant? Did you achieve any of them?

I like to start with this look back because in 11 months lots may have changed in your life.

2. So where are you now? Is there anything that has bee gnawing at you that you have been not quite finishing? Have you resigned yourself to waiting until the end of the year before you start anything?

3. So if you look at those first two questions and are really honest with yourself then your head and your heart should be in a great place to move forward. Your head may be saying “Wait, next year is almost here” and your heart may be saying “Lets simplify and get some of these old things out of the way”

Whenever you can get your feelings and emotions as well as your tactics in place you can achieve anything. If you don’t have these aligned then you will find you spin your wheels.

Since we are just going to try to drive some results out of the next 24 days I want you to looks at a couple things that are important. Maybe, like in my case improve my health, and organize my home and work life. You will notice that these are not real goals. Who gives a crap about real goals when we only have December to worry about anyway. So we are just going to pick off issues one at a time.

4. Make a list  all the things that you want to do in these two areas of your life and just to help you out I want to suggest that you break the things down into chunks that you can get done in a day or during a day. Here are my examples:

Improve my health – Do cardio, eat less refined foods, do weights, cut down on coffee, increase food intake, get better quality sleep.

Organize my home and worklife – Get critical tasks done before noon, spend two hours an evening with the computer off, read with the kids, take my wife out for lunch, Get the day planned the night before.

Again these are just directions, not the goals that I will be hammering on in a few weeks time but the goal of all this is to make some change in your life and to institute change.

5. Get these lists on a piece of paper that you can carry with your or tape up or even put on your fridge put this list in front of you. The idea behind this is that while you are working on structuring your day better today with one thing on the list you can also see the other parts in your life to work on in the rest of the list.

If this process seems tough then you are doing it all wrong. For all the tough parts of making changes in your life there should be at least a balance off of satisfaction and a better quality to your days.

Let me know how this works out for you. I have just started this December adjustment in protest to setting resolutions and giving up on 2011 and we can refine it as we move forward over the next few weeks before starting goal setting in earnest for 2012.

Biggest Loser 2011

Well don’t know what to call this as we are so many seasons in but Biggest Loser 2011 seems good?

Anyway we are about three episodes in to the new season I guess and there has been lots of interesting drama and Biggest Loser 2011 has been fun to watch for the first time in a while for me, maybe just my motivation but I am liking it.

Trainers on Biggest Loser 2011

Biggest Loser 2011

Biggest Loser 2011 Trainers

This season we have our old standby Bob Harper but also we have two new trainers; Dolvett Quince and Anna Kournikova. We knew what to expect from Bob Harper and he has been tough and successful but he seems to be letting the new trainers get lots of attention as well.

Dolvett Quince – Dolvett has been a great trainer and a great character. He seems to be a great trainer and super tough, pushing all of his team really hard in the gym and not giving them a chance to slack off but listening to what their bodies are saying and not their whining or mental weakness.

Out of the gym Dolvett Quince has been really great with his team. Teaching nutrition, being excited for the future, being a friend and confidante and making sure that the team members understand that he is there for them. Can you tell that I am a big fan of Dolvett Quince?

Anna Kournikova – I never understood why Anna Kournikova would be a coach on Biggest Loser 2011 but now we get to see after a few episodes how she thinks, coaches, and brings to the Biggest Loser as a trainer.

Poor Anna Kournikova got saddled with the older people which through testosterone dropping in peoples bodies as they grow older makes her job really really tough. Not fair Biggest Loser producers! Anyway to be honest I don’t tink that in the gym Anna shows a lot of emotion, she does not take crap but her team has to follow her direction and she got a couple of whiny people right out of the gate. So far Anna’s team has lost two people but really I think her emotional attachment is her greatest strength and over time (she is not an experienced trainer) will be her increasing knowledge of training others and her background of success that she can communicate.

My Favorite Biggest Loser 2011 contestants

I am enjoying watching all the people of nthe Biggest Loser thins season. I tend to find that early in the season it is hard to follow everyone so I just watch passively and start cheering later in the season. Here are the people that I have really noticed so far.

Biggest Loser 2011Antone – Antone is a whiny bitch when he is working out. I love watching him push and push and cry and then take it up a notch. This guy is great and does not give up. With all hiw weight I expect that Antone will od well this season and I look forward to watching more of his backstory as well being a former pro athlete

Biggest Loser 2011Jennifer – Jennifer is just plain fun and gets really excited about the weigh ins which is pretty important. Being in the background on TV I think that she tends to see things from the outside so she will be able to play the mental game well later on. Fun to watch and she keeps losing which is great to see.

Biggest Loser 2011Mike – Mike lost big this week, 17 pounds I think and being a teacher and football coach he knows what it takes and I always see him working hard and not complaining, just quiet in the background on Annas team.

Biggest Loser 2011Ramon – When I first saw that a tattoo artist would be on I cringed. I have no tattoos but my wife has plenty and we watch those tattoo shows and they are cocky bastards. Ramon is not. What a lovable guy, fun, outgoing, and a great friend to everyone when they let him.

The only problems that I find with Biggest Loser 2011 are the same complaints I have had for years. Recaps after commericals (chubby people don’t have memory NBC?), obvious product placements, and especially the scripted way that each episode is setup, same as every year since the show began.

How about you? What are your highlights so far? I am thinking that this season Biggest Loser 2011 will be a good one although they still need to change things up with the staleness of the shows setup.
