Frustrating is an understatement, I know. It can be so incredibly difficult to cut through all the conflicting information you get from the various diet plans out there. What makes this such a difficult task? Well, for starters, most of these diet plans have been created by equally qualified people. This article is about to expose these discrepancies, helping you make an effective, stress-free dieting decision.

We’ve all seen it. One health guru tells you that in order to lose weight and build lean muscle, you’ve got to eat lots of lean protein and very few carbs. A week later, you’re exposed to another health guru (just as renowned as the first) telling you that common sense tells us that we need less and less protein as we get older, that this fact is obvious when you look at the composition of a mother’s milk as her baby gets older (the protein decreases), and that the animals we eat for protein didn’t get their protein by consuming protein, but rather amino acids.

Is milk good for you… or terrible? Does veganism create weak, frail people… or absolute powerhouses? Does consuming fat actually make you fat? Depending upon the book you’re currently reading, the “official” answers to these questions can vary wildly.

So here’s what I propose. It is the most common sense approach known to man. Follow results! Try something for a week and monitor your progress. If you’re headed in the right direction, continue. Otherwise, follow the next guru’s advice for a week and see how that works for you.

If this level of trial and error doesn’t appeal to you, consider the commonly accepted truth that diet plans that have you consuming fewer calories than you use are going to work every time. That’s just the way the body is designed. Regardless of any of the latest diet trends that may tell you that calories don’t matter, use your own common sense on this one.

Extra calories are stored as body fat. This fat is full of calories (units of energy). If you keep stuffing yourself with more calories than you use, then your body will continue to store them. On the other hand, when you use more calories than you consume, your body will pull from your fat reserves in order to fuel itself. Any diet plans that try to debunk this well-known fact are immediately subject to suspicion from where I stand.

What’s really funny to me about a lot of these genuinely convincing programs is that they try to pitch their diet by claiming that you can eat whatever you want and don’t have to do much exercise. What you eat and how you move your body are ALL that matter when it comes to losing weight. The fresher and more natural your food, the better. And the more you exercise, the better (within reason).

The chances are that you probably own antibacterial cleaners, whether they are in the form of hand soap or cleaners for your kitchen and bathroom. But are these cleaners actually doing more harm than good?

Why Do We Need to Kill Bacteria?

It’s true that some bacteria can cause disease, illness and food poisoning. Many antibacterial cleaners promise to kill around 99% of bacteria, which helps to explain why they are so popular. After all, we all want to protect ourselves and our family from getting ill.

So Why Are Antibacterial Cleaners Bad for Our Health?

Antibacterial Cleaners: Can They Do More Harm Than Good?Unfortunately, antibacterial cleaners aren’t as good for us as they may seem. In the short term, their ingredients are known to irritate the skin (this is more of a problem with those that have been developed for cleaning purposes).

The FDA is currently looking into one of the major ingredients of antibacterial soaps: triclosan. Although the evidence isn’t yet clear, it suggests it may have a harmful effect on humans (especially children). In the past, the FDA has also stated that there are no extra health benefits to using antibacterial soaps over regular soap and water.

Another long term result of using antibacterial products is that they make bacteria more resistant. This means that, over time, these antibacterial products will no longer be able to kill the germs they set out to kill in the first place.

The truth is that you don’t need to make your home sterile to protect yourself and your family. Bacteria is all around us, and being exposed to small amounts of it is what our body needs in order to build up its defenses against stronger bacteria. Studies have shown that sterile environments in childhood can actually lead to more allergies and other problems later in life.

The American Medical Associated (AMA) has warned against extensive use of such antibacterial cleaners for these reasons. When it comes to killing germs, simple measures like washing your hands often (with traditional rather than antibacterial cleaners) are a good way to protect against germs.

Do you have a decent body except for that middle roll of flab that just doesn’t seem to go away no matter how much you exercise or attempt to spot reduce that area? The truth is that the spare tire around your middle is fat ? and you’re not going to see the 6-pack abs buried beneath until you get rid of it.

The trick to reducing fat around your middle is to reduce your caloric intake and eat foods that are proven “fat burners” such as lean protein, salads and vegetables. Reduce your carbohydrate intake, especially in the evening hours when your body is slowing down. Adopt a low fat diet for your lifestyle to burn the unwanted fat and eventually reach the show-off abs you desire.

There is a difference between toning your abs and reducing the fat around your middle. Toning abdominal muscles can be achieved by exercising, but removing the fat must take place from the inside out. It won’t do you any good to try spot reduction exercises if you don’t get rid of the fat first.

There’s no such thing as an immediate “fix” for a flabby tummy. You can spend hundreds of dollars on pills and creams, but you’ll soon realize that the only way to 6-pack abs is to work at it.

While you’re concentrating on a low fat diet, you’ll want to tone and firm the abdominal muscles that lie beneath the fat with exercise. The key to exercising your abs is to do the exercises correctly. If you’re concentrating on tummy crunches to firm your abs and performing them incorrectly you’ll never see success.

So, before you exercise, learn how to do it properly. For example, if you’re doing crunches, learn the correct method of breathing as you’re exercising. A number of good online sites contain information about how to perform abdominal exercises.

Concentrate on resistance training when firming and toning your abs. Use a “fit ball” (sometimes called “exercise ball”) for support if you have problems with your lower back. And don’t overdo it. Three sessions a week is plenty when you’re exercising muscles that have lain dormant for awhile.

Cardio exercises (aerobic) designed to rev up your heart rate can help burn fat, so be sure to include them in your exercise regimen ? and include the ones that work both your upper and lower body. It’s best to do cardio exercises in the morning ? and always on an empty stomach.

Don’t be discouraged if you don’t see results as fast as you’d like. Remember, those 6-pack abs are buried somewhere beneath that fat roll. It’s your job to find them.
Good luck.

3 Day Diet

3 Day DietThere has been a diet floating around for many years called the 3 day diet. It is crap and promises a 10 pound weight loss but is in truth a lie. I have thought a bit about this and decided to come up with my own 3 day diet.

Why Use a 3 Day Diet?

Have you ever thought of going on a 3 day diet? I was just surfing around and found that there are people looking for something of a short diet. If you were to do a three day diet I fear that you would not lose a lot of weight but you would have an opportunity to get in better shape by eating better and concentrating on some of those fundamentals of good eating and good metabolism tricks.

So here are some ideas that I have for how to do a 3 day diet.

First as you get up in the morning on the first day remember that you will be trying to do a couple of things. You will be looking to space out your eating for the entire 3 day diet and you will be looking to improve your water intake to help fill you up.

3 Day Diet Step 1 – Eating

First thing to do is to drink a lot of water. In the 3 day diet you will likely be drinking three or four times as much water as you are used to drinking. This morning you will drink three glasses of water and no food yet. This extra water intake will mean that you are going to peeing a lor more often than you are used to but that is ok as well, your body needs to relearn how to regulate hydration better.

Most people say that you should have a good breakfast to start the day. I have to agree that this is a good idea although having food first thing is not a very good idea as your body is not ready to understand hunger yet, especially after drinking all of that water. You can use the same strategy as me and wait 30 to 60 minutes until your body has really started to churn through that water and then my favorite breakfast is to eat a pack of instant apple and cinnamon oatmeal and then a banana. I know this seems like a small breakfast but that is part of the trick.

As you go through this three day diet you will find that you are eating probably the same amount of food but spaced throughout the day so each meal will seem small and you will not feel hungry because you get to keep eating often.

3 Day Diet Step 2 – Eat Often

Most people on the regular north american diet will eat one or two giant meals and another small one. This is a terrible way to treat your body, it can’t use those giant meals very well and your blood sugar is being shot up and then dropped down again. We should call regular eating the wrestling diet since it seems to being your blood sugar up off the top rope and then bodyslams it to the mat below. In your 3 day diet you will be eating a lot better than this with a bunch of small meals that will keep your blood sugar balanced.

So on my 3 day diet you will be eating at 8:00, 10:00, Noon, 3:00, 5:00, and 8:00

I will not tell you exactly what to eat as that would not be fair. What I suggest is that all of your meals should have some protein, some fat and some carbs and should satisfy you without making you full. The first day will be very difficult as you will be so worried about eating small meals that you may eat a bit much and then a couple hours later you will not be hungry but will still be eating.

So since this may be a radical departure for you I have just a few rules to make the 3 day diet work better and be easier.

1. No meal can be big. Dinner is as big as breakfast which is as big as a mid afternoon snack.

2. Eat at least 5 pieces of fruit or servings of vegetables in a day

3. Drink a large glass of water 30 minutes before each of your meals

4. Eat some kind of serving of meat 2 to 3 times a day. If you are a vegetarian then just make sure that you are eating lots of protein based foods often every day

5. Write down your foods everyday and then in the evening journal your victories as well as your mistakes and how you want to eat better the next day

Serving Sizes on a 3 Day Diet

After your third day of this 3 day diet you are going to find that you are not scared of your serving sizes anymore and you are also going to feel a lot better. There is a great improvement in health, concentration, energy, and attitude when you are drinking more and self regulating your blood sugar. The other great thing about this kind of diet is that you are going to be able to improve your metabolism as your body will not fear that it will be close to starvation at any point of the day.

I hope that after you have tried this three day diet that you will go ahead and start it right away again. This in not just a good idea for three days but instead this 3 day diet is a great way to change your lifestyle for the better.

Lost

Tomorrow we enter week eight of Insanity. This week we took a couple extra days off  and I think it’s been a nice recovery. Guilt free. We’ve got two more weeks of the program before we start another 9-week cycle. Yup, we’re doing it again.

The last four weeks of the program are killer and much harder than the already hard first four weeks so I look forward to revisiting what i couldn’t do and hopefully finding myself doing it.

Like I mentioned before I haven’t lost a ton of weight and that is not at the fault of the program but instead my lack of focused eating. And that’s fine with me. I’m gratful for this path I’m on with exercise and happy with my accomplishments thus far.

I know that with continued planning and focus on food intake plus insanity will yield more results. I will say though that I’m losing about a pound a week on average. Which isn’t a lot. The old me would have been disappointed and given up. But really, the truth is, that is 56 pounds a year. I would like to tack on more to that loss and truly believe I will. The time is going to pass regardless if I exercise or not. The past two years went by and I did not lose 56 pounds. And maybe it’s because I wanted it to happen over night?

Josh is looking much more fit and toned and my middle waist area is narrower. Clothes are fitting better and I’m starting to fit back into the pants that were too tight in January. I have no complaints at the moment, or any deep thoughts. I just feel like I’m doing what I need to do to be a healthier person.

Back to The Grind

Hello Monday! I have to say this: I (with my husband) worked out six days last week and it was awesome. Most days we worked out in the morning and a couple of the days we worked out in the evening, but we did it! We were sore pretty much every single day. Insanity was majorly ass-kicking. By far, the hardest workout I’ve ever done. Ever. We scream at Shaun T during the suicide drills. I hate you Shaun T., but I love you too.

I like the schedule we set up: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: Insanity. Thursday is one hour of yoga and one hour of strength, and then we finish with Insanity on Friday and Saturday. Our goal is to complete the 60 days worth of Insanity and start running outside again when it gets warmer.

I’m staying away from the scale for awhile, and hope to find it again mid-February or March. Truth be told, and saying this here makes it seem even crazier, but often the reason why I give up so soon on diet and exercise is because I don’t see immediate results on the scale. Which is crazy, but somewhat true for me.

For example, this past week I worked my butt off with exercise. I was consistent, I ate well, I cooked at home a lot, I counted and tracked calories. I worked for it. But, in my mind I think “okay I worked hard, have I lost 50 lbs yet?!” or “how could I NOT lose 10 lbs this week?” it’s so crazy, but I let the scale guide me rather than my actions. I’m looking for insant results and when the scale doesn’t show it- I give up.

So I don’t know what I weight, or how much water or weight I’ve lost. And I won’t know for a least another month. I’m letting my actions guide me right now. I’m trusting that I’m doing the right things for the results I want. Moving more+ eating less. That’s all I can hope for. And I had a real moment with myself when I said “If I just lose 40 lbs this year, that would be great”.

So with that said, I’ve got another week of action goals. Six days of exercise, just like last week. Count and tack calories and cook often.

What are your action goals this week?

The Schwarzbein Principle: The Truth About Losing Weight, Being Healthy, and Feeling Younger

Review

From her work with insulin-resistant patients with Type II diabetes, Dr. Schwarzbein concludes that low-fat diets cause heart attacks, eating fat makes you lose body fat, and it’s important to eat high-cholesterol foods every day. Picture cardiologists and dieticians tearing their hair out and overweight people cheering as they dive into Eggs Benedict with sausage. According to Schwarzbein, the high-carbohydrate, low-fat, moderate-protein diet that most dieticians and disease-prevention organizations recommend is the culprit that turns people into diabetics, makes them age faster and get degenerative diseases, and keeps them fat and unhealthy. She supports her theory with case studies of people who were si

2 Things You May not Know About Fat Loss

It is a sad and very unfortunate fact that many people and companies take advantage of the lucrative weight loss industry, by convincing people that their latest gadget will do wonders for their weight problems. These unscrupulous people and companies fool the public into believing that their gadgets really work. The truth is, abdomen flatteners or thigh trimmers really do not work and tests prove they don’t, but still people fall for the lies some companies tell them. In nearly all cases these gadgets do not work for people and are just a complete waste of money.

Now the time has come to put these so called wonder gadgets to bed and tell the truth so that people will gradually learn and stop buying these useless machines. People who seriously want to lose weight are being fooled into purchasing these wonder machines and it does nothing to help them. So, here are two things you need to know about fat loss in order to make sure you do not become another victim.

Exercising in the morning will not help you burn off more fat than exercising at any other time of the day. Let’s face it, physical activity is going to help you burn fat and it really doesn’t matter when you exercise as long as you exercise. Don’t be fooled by companies that tell you to use their exercise machines first thing in the morning. It really doesn’t matter when you exercise one bit.

Alongside that, it is not possible for many to exercise first thing in the morning. Most people have to go to work or have other things to do. These people need to do their exercise in the afternoons or early evenings.

Some people though will have more energy in the morning of course and for these people they should go ahead and exercise first thing, but please do not believe that you will get the most benefit from exercising in the morning before you do anything else.

There is no such thing a spot fat reduction. It is fitness experts who fool people into believing this foolish notion so that they can sell a gadget or something to them. Do not believe this myth or you will end up buying something that says it will help with spot reduction of fat for special areas of your body, like your stomach or thighs. The only thing you will spot reduce with these gadgets is your bank balance!

No matter how or where on your body you try to lose weight, ultimately it is your body that will decide which fat to burn. It will always win no matter what you do. Some people will lose fat around their buttocks or thighs, while others will firstly lose it around the waist or face area. Don’t be fooled into believing that doing hundreds of sit ups each day will burn fat around your abdominal area. Just doing abdominal exercises will simply help you to lose your abdomen muscles and lose no fat!

I hope this article helps you to understand important things about fat loss. Check out more of my articles here to help you with your fat loss desires.

fat loss for you? Well, you may be considering purchasing the latest gadget Buster ab on the market just to get rid of that belly fat. Before you do, you may want to read this information. The truth is that these machines will not bust the fat from your waist, hips or thighs, as they claim.
  How you weight gain;
The idea that you can lose fat from a particular body part targeting this game with intense exercise is not news. Someone always claims to have miracle movement that will leave you with six-pack abs. That, my friends, is simply not true.
We gain weight depending on body type, age, sex and genetics. The basic reason, we gain fat reserves is that we consume more than we burn, however, when the fat is stored is affected by the reasons mentioned above.
We all have a different body type, some are heavier on the bottom, some in the middle and others on top, and others through the weight gain also. Such localized weight is determined at least in part by genetics. If your mother made a lot of weight on the hips, the chances are good that you will do the same.
Other things as childbearing may also affect where the weight is stored. Needless to say, the fat settles where it will be based on factors that you have little control.
  How Exercise Works
Exercise works by increasing your metabolism, which in turn creates increased calorie burn. When you've burned all the calories consumed in one day this will then burn stores of fat on your body. However, they turn to specific areas only because it is the work area.
Machines abdominal, thigh masters, and all the other gadgets you can buy a single thing to strengthen the muscle under the fat reserves. Also, guess what, you're not likely to be able to see the difference until the fat over falsehood is deleted.
To remove it, you have to make outs of intensive work and watch what you eat. That secrecy pure and simple. The machines can you help? To a limited extent only when you strengthen all muscle groups it is a good start, but you have to couple it with other measures to see the fantastic result that you expected.
  Conclusion
When you want to lose weight look at this as a process. We must eat less, exercise more and increase lean body mass. All these things are accomplished by a balanced diet that includes all major food groups, increased activity and weight training.
There is no quick fix to weight loss, no pill or gadget that will make it easy for you. It will take work and dedication to a change of lifestyle. When you do this, you will feel and look amazing. A healthy diet fat loss balances your mood and gives you the energy to exercise.
