Weekly Weigh-Ins Start Today

Caramel and vanilla Bigelow tea to the rescue! This is exactly what I needed last night. And my favorite quilt too.

Around 10:30 I was starving. That’s what happens when I eat dinner at 4:30. Six hours later, I’m getting close to bedtime, but my stomach is growling. I settled on two graham crackers, eaten pretty slowly. They tasted really sweet to me, and I think it’s because I haven’t been eating real sweets lately. I can remember thinking in a not too distant past that they weren’t sweet and adding peanut butter. I also had a clementine and more water before bed.

So here it is! I’m reintroducing weekly weigh-ins to the blog.  I need the structure of a weekly weigh-in and the accountability of posting it publicly. I’ve been losing and regaining the same weight for way too long now and I’m just way over that. I’m so over being fat. Not that I was ever for it, I’m just done justifying it and making excuses.  Done convincing myself that I don’t look that fat. That I can pull it off.  Done convincing myself that I eat well for a fat person. And all of the millions of other rationalizations I’ve come up with to make being this big okay. Done. Done. Done. You can follow these updates on the left-hand sidebar.

This morning I had a turkey sandwich. Nitrate/filler/antibiotic-free turkey with organic mixed greens on oatmeal bread.

Weigh-in: Is it obnoxious or helpful to mention when my food is local/organic/nitrate etc. free? I don’t always mention it and I’m not at all trying to say bacon is health food because I’ve found a healthier alternative. Eating this way is important to me and I like to share when I make that choice. I’m not perfect, just always trying to be a little better. What do you think?

Today I’m going to do another resistance band workout and do some jabs and punching for exercise. I imagine it will be a good two weeks (if not longer) before my knee is fully recovered. I’m seriously thinking about making a morning trip to the indoor pool with Josh on Valentine’s Day.

And now I’m hungry again. Time for lunch, what are you having?

Fun and Interesting Stuff:

California Chef Forages a Feast (I would love to learn how to do this without poisoning myself)

Peanut Butter Qunioa Cookies (going to try these this week!)

This dress is making me crave warmer weather (and brown leather sandals!)

Guess what? Me and my mom are going to BlogHer this year in NYC. Are you going!?

It Chooses You

Good morning! Did you guys get any snow yesterday? So far we just have a dusting, it’s mostly cold and windy. Is it bad that I’m hoping for at least one big snow this winter?

Yesterday’s breakfast was so good. I had one of Jeanne’s eggs fried in butter, a couple of slices of peach ham, a clementine and a small slice of banana bread. I ended up not eating more than a bite of the banana bread because I got overzealous with reheating it in the microwave. I think a loaf of banana bread is in my future.

Lunch was really late in the day so I kept it small. A shared chicken burrito, half of an avocado, and salsa.

Dinner took forever to cook, but it was so worth it. I made tandoori chicken burgers with yogurt cucumber sauce and naan. I topped the burgers with cucumber, red onion and cilantro. It was amazing. The chicken patties were tender and had a lot of Indian spice flavor to them. I also really liked the cumin in the cucumber sauce.

I didn’t get a good photo of the burgers because it was 9pm and I didn’t feel like pulling out the natural lights, but these were amazing. I’ll definitely be making them again. You can find the recipe for the tandoori chicken burgers here. The only difference for me was the chicken. I used whole chicken breasts and ground them up in the food processor with the spices. The naan recipe is here.

I did not exercise yesterday and can tell it’s going to be hard at first to get back into the swing of things. I woke up early to exercise and then waited for Josh and then just kept putting it off until we were both too tired. I think honestly we were both excited to get back to work and have a normal day that it took second seat to everything else. No excuses today though.

I’m almost done reading It Chooses You by Miranda July. Oh my. It’s so very interested and surprisingly sad and deep. Miranda’s comments about life, time and death feel so familiar to what goes on in my own head that it’s comforting to read the  words from someone else. While writing or trying to write a screen play she decides to seek out the people from the LA Penny Saver for interviews. What she finds is a whole lot of crazy in a world that exists without the internet.

Successful Sunday

If most days this year were spent like yesterday, it’s safe to say I would be in a very good place come 2012. And I want to make a note about it here as a reminder.

I woke up and ate a breakfast of an egg sandwich on whole wheat, flax toast. The egg was from a friends chicken farm and it was delicious with a little butter.

For a snack later I had a clementine. And a bit later a cup of chocolate chai tea, unsweetened.

I did close to an hour of Tae Bo Elite Bootcamp level 2 (my favorite ever!) with Billy Blanks.

And then our dinner was hosted by his mom and we had potato soup, bread, salmon, mashed butternut squash, and steamed brussel sprouts.

A couple of hours later I made a fruit salad (I was craving something sweet) with a mixture of apples, bananas, mandarine oranges, raspberries and chopped walnuts.

And now I’m off to make Monday just as good…

Staring with a similar breakfast (it keeps me full and satisfied), a date with Jillian this morning, a date with Billy later this evening with Josh, and then some nice shrimp pasta with creamy tomato sauce.

Let’s make an exercise date together! I’m promising to do Tae Bo this evening around 5:30pm, will you do some form of exercise with me? Let me know in the comments.
