The Rocks Diet

You know Dwayne Johnson? The Rock? He used to be a pro wrestler, now has a TV show called The Hero, and is making a movie called Hercules – The Thracian Wars.

Last week he posted his bulking up diet on Twitter and it is crazy! 7 meals a day a ton of meat and carbs. Check this out!

That is a lot of food. and the Nemean Lion Blood? I was wondering about that and searched and it is just an in joke about the Nemean Lions that were supposed to have blood that would be poisonous.

Anyway if you have been watch The Hero TV show you have probably noticed that Dwayne Johnson is even bigger now than ever. He is certainly lean and very very muscular so that diet and exercise seem to be working really well together

Yogurt Brownie Sunday

My sweet tooth knows no bounds. As soon as I declare “self, let’s get serious about this whole weight loss business” I start craving sweets. Seeing as how this is the year without refined sugar with a couple exceptions (I’m looking at you Beaches Resort) I’ve had to get a little creative.

And here friends, is a Sunday, just as good as any old ice cream thing you’d find elsewhere. The star is, of course, the brownie. But how?

Meet The Pure Bar (organic, raw, refined sugar free). The main contenders are dates, agave nectar, cashews, cocoa, almonds and a proud “and that’s all!” at the end. I love them and buy them so often that our local grocery store has a hard time meeting my demand.

To me, the taste is very similar to a Little Debbie brownie. My husband would disagree and actually does not understand my love for these bars.

You guys remember the rumor about Lara Bar cherry and pecan pie bars tasting just like the real thing and we all went to the store and some of us (no names mentioned) bought a box on Amazon hoping that somehow someone finally figured out how to make dates and nuts taste like buttery crust and gooey filling? And then, well, it tasted more like fruit and nuts than gooey pies and we all cried? No?

This bar is so good, if you’re not my husband, go buy some and thank me later. Word on the street is that Trader Joe’s has them, Amazon has them and my local Food Lion stocks them just for me (I think).

All you need is 1/2 C whole plain yogurt, one Pure Bar Chocolate Brownie, 1 T all-fruit jam (melted or stirred in with the yogurt) and 1 T shredded coconut (optional).

My Quick, Healthy, Cheap, Delicious Dinner

Here’s the thing, I live in what most people would call “the middle of nowhere” and by that I mean, we do not have any food delivery service in our town. Which isn’t a bad thing. And truth be told, I’m kinda secretly glad. Mostly.

Here’s the other thing. I love to cook, but I’m also a human being living in modern times and sometimes I just downright don’t want to cook. So my solution is a handful of go-to dinners for days when I’m not feeling the extra time spent in the kitchen. I also like that this dinner is cheap. About $1.75 a serving. Which I will happily throw in the face of anyone who says it’s too expensive to eat a healthy meal. You just cannot get an organic, filling, delicious meal for $1.75 anywhere. Trust me, I’ve looked. And on top of that- one serving is just shy of 300 calories.

Here’s what you do…

chop up an onion and place it in your skillet with about a teaspoon of olive oil. sauté with a little salt until tender. *bonus points: I usually chop up several onions at a time and keep them in the refrigerator.

Rinse a can of organic lentils.

Add lentils to onions and cook for about 3 or 4 minutes.

Pour the jar of jalfrezi sauce in. I’ve seen this brand at kroger and food lion and highly recommend it. It’s the best Indian sauce in a jar I’ve ever had. Don’t be scared by the word “hot” on the label. I assure you, this dish is not hot. Also, I add about 1/4 cup of water to the jar, put the lid back on and shake. I pour this into the pan with everything else. And sometimes when I’m feeling really crazy I’ll add about 1/4 cup coconut milk to make it extra delicious! Simmer for 5-10 minutes.

Serve over organic basmati rice. *Bonus points: I make extra batches of rice in my rice cooker and store in the refrigerator for future use.

Enjoy!
