A Big Weight Loss Secret

I run into lots of people that are looking to lose weight and are looking for one magic tip. Should they eat lots of protein? Should they exercise 5 hours a day? Should they follow the latest crazy diet?

What is the Biggest Weight Loss Secret……?

There is one magic secret that will help you more than anything else and that is to have weight loss goals. I know everyone has a weight loss goal, that is how a diet starts. People pick a number out of the air…I want to lose 10 pounds, or I want to lose 50 pounds. The trouble with focusing on a weight loss goal that is based on weight is that you do not succeed or win until you have lost all of the weight. What you need instead is a real goals. Not just one or tow goals but a handful of short and long term goals that have nothing to do with weight.

A Big Weight Loss SecretWhat would you like to be able to do tommorow? How about eat six good meals? How about drink 8 glasses of water? How about not eating any candy?

What do you want in one month? How about running three blocks non stop? Eating power meals all day? Exercising for an hour every day for a week? How about having YOUR perfect day as you have written it out today?

What do you want in a year? A marathon under your belt? Riding an exercise bike, or real bije 100 miles in one day? Going along the same vein how about riding 1000 miles in the next six months.

I have tried to give a few ideas here of real fitness goals but of course it is up to you to come up with a few of your own. Last Christmas I did a full blown Goal Setting post but at this time of year it would be good to just get a few goals together to get you through the rest of the year and then you can reset more then.

Green Detox Smoothie

Just made me a green detox smoothie. This thing tastes great and is really easy to make. I used a handful of washed kale, half a can of pinapple, one banana, and one peeled orange.

Green Detox Smoothie

Although this tastes think and great there is a change I will make next time and that is to freeze the pineapple and the banana or maybe use frozen oranges. The consistency is good but it is not as cold as I would have liked. Sadly my daughter does not like bananas or pineapples so this was not a green detox smoothie for her but it is for me.

Benefits of a Green Detox Smoothie

Kale is super high in Vitamin K (1300% of a daily amount), Vitamin A, and Vitamin C as well as having a lot of digestive abilities.

Pineapple of course is great for helping digestion because it cantains Bromelain. as well as being high in Vitamin C and Manganese, and has many Anti-Inflammatory  Benefits.

Add to this the antioxidants in both bananas and oranges and you can see this green detox smoothie really packs a punch all in one big glass.

Should You Limit Carbs on the Paleo Diet?

No two people lose weight in the same way. This is why it is hard to determine how many carbs each person should consume every day. Some people may find that they can lose weight while eating 40 grams of carbs each day, while others have to limit their choices to fewer than 20 grams.

In order to find how many carbs you should be consuming you will need to track your weight loss results. Start off by keeping a food and exercise journal. This way you can review it each week and see exactly what you ate and how many pounds you lost.

You should also take into account your exercise level as well. If you are an athlete training for a sporting event you can eat more carbs than a person who is trying to lose weight.

Even though you have your list of recommended foods for the Paleo Diet they each contain different amounts of calories and carbohydrate levels. Just because a food is listed doesn’t mean you can eat them all day in huge quantities. You should take your overall calories into consideration as well.

A good example of this would be nuts. Yes they are allowed on the Paleo diet but they are also very high in calories. Nuts are best used as a snack and limited to a small handful, around 10-12 nuts each day.

Another area to be careful with carbs and sugars is with fruit. Again fruits are healthy and good for you, but some fruits contain large amounts of sugar. If you are trying to lose more than just a few pounds limit your fruit to one or two pieces per day.

Sweet potatoes are another recommended Paleo food but are also high in calories. Eating a sweet potato is a good choice for lunch if you are planning on an afternoon of high activity, such as gardening. Your body needs energy to perform this task and by eating before exercising you can burn off the calories. It is best to avoid eating sweet potatoes for dinner. You are less likely to be active in the evening and the calories will just sit on your body.

When starting out on the Paleo diet limit your choices of high carbohydrate foods and choose those which are rich in fibre such as vegetable. This will help maximize your weight loss efforts.

By keeping track of how many carbs you consume you can see how your body reacts. If you aren’t losing each week then cut back on your carbs and fruits. As you reach your desired weight loss goal you can slowly add these back in.
