Banana Diet for Weight Loss? Does This Make Sense?

Do you love bananas? If you love bananas and are struggling to lose weight, I have good news for you… maybe.

There is a diet program which would let you lose weight with the help of bananas. It is known as the banana diet. You see, bananas are touted as one of most nutritious fruits ever, and you would be surprised to know that the banana diet is not a new fad.

It has been around for decades under various names and forms. So let’s head over to discuss how many bananas you need to eat daily for weight loss.

How Does the Banana Diet Work?

Well, according to the diet program, you need to eat two bananas each before breakfast as well as before lunch. After that, you can have just one banana a little before dinner. That is about 5 bananas you could eat per day.banana

And if you have a habit of eating at late nights, you would be gravely disappointed, for the banana diet doesn’t allow you to eat even a morsel after 8 pm. It is a good thing really. If you eat something late at night and go to bed a little later, your body is unable to digest the food and turn it into energy.

Naturally, it would deposit the undigested food as fat, thereby making you fatter than before.

Now the good and bad things about the banana diet.

The good thing is that it focuses on a nutritious fruit called banana for weight loss. In case you don’t know it already, banana is rich in potassium and fiber content.

Fiber would keep you full for a considerable time; that way, you are able to suppress your appetite (and by implication, your appetite for junk foods as well) and lose easily. At least, that is how the makers of the banana diet envisioned the whole process.

However, no good diet is without some cons, and the banana diet is no exception in this regard. The bad thing about this diet is that it doesn’t dictate your food choices in any way.

The only stipulation it has is that – regardless of whatever you eat, you must eat banana before anything else.

Does that mean that if you eat brandy, soda, potatoes, chips, cookies, burgers etc. after eating banana, you would lose weight? Nope. Eating junk foods after having banana would be of no use.

Keep in mind that bananas don’t help you burn fat; rather, they suppress your appetite, so that you feel less hungry than usual. You still need to make wise food choices.

This is an area in which the banana diet leaves you on your own. I would suggest that apart from bananas, you eat nothing except nuts, whole grains, natural vegetables, raw fruits, fishes, chicken, eggs, etc. They are all good foods, in that they not only provide the necessary nutrition to your body but also keep your overall calorie intake at a low level.

Overcoming Dieting Challenges – Easy Answers To Tough Questions

The two primary challenges of dieting are that we need to eat to survive – and we get hungry. Like it or not, food is critical to existence.

To compound these challenges, there is a magnificent array of food options these days; the choices are endless and enticing – and not always good for us.

A Few Thoughts To Consider

knowledge is powerConsider this: We live in a time in which we are more knowledgeable about what we eat. We know what’s good for us and what’s bad. Food providers are offering more low calorie options.

There are nutritional labels on what we buy. And we dare to tell restaurants: “No sauce and I want a take-home box.” Frankly, the ability to make wise dieting choices is easier now than ever.

Stress and Comfort Foods

Stress levels are soaring and comfort food is … well … such a comfort. There may be a few people in this world who react to stress by “not being able to eat a thing.” But most dieters find a pint of ice cream or a bag of chips a great comfort after a bad day.

Consider this: Yes – it’s okay to occasionally indulge in an evening of comfort when times are tough. But do not let that night’s indulgence carry into the next day. A dieter can deal with relaunching a wavering diet commitment in the morning, but not every morning.

Although better multiple renewed efforts after bad nights (with the appropriate level of guilt), than allowing the previous night’s binge eating to become the new life style.

People Sabotage Your Dreams

Well meaning friends sabotage a dieter. Whether it’s from nurturing – or an inner desire to see the dieter fail (yes, that happens!), family and friends, by making the committed dieter feel guilty, can destroy a will power and commitment.

Consider this: Say, “NO!” It’s that simple. If you hurt your mother’s feeling by not eating her homemade dessert, so be it. If she knows you are trying to shed pounds and makes that dessert any ways, then she’s in the wrong, not you.

If you’re the only person at dinner who doesn’t order dessert and they all reproach you, stand strong – and shame on them. Remind them you need their support. Here’s the deal: if they care about you, they should support you – not undermine. And they aren’t the ones who have to face that bathroom scale the next morning.

Any Exercise is Critical – Don’t Make a Big Deal About It

We don’t have time to exercise – or “it’s boring.”

Consider this: Experts agree that even a little exercise is better than being a slug. Can’t go to the gym? Take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk the distance of a parking lot, pace while talking on the phone, stand while folding laundry, walk fast, and don’t stroll. Anything that gets a dieter moving is better than sitting. And – honestly – couldn’t you find some time in the day (especially on a weekend) to truly move?

The ultimate diet challenge is that we kid ourselves. We can blame the need for food, stress, family/friends and lack of time, but ultimately, we are culpable for our bad choices and our diet failures.

Turning Failure into Success

We have all experienced the feeling of failure when something we have attempted has not gone according to plan, and we are all familiar with that sickening feeling of defeat and despair- but it is possible to turn that failure into success.

We need to accept that failure will always be a part of our life, and the only way to avoid it would be to stop trying to achieve anything.

We first experience failure as a child- when we try to walk, we fall and stumble, but instead of feeling we have failed and we may as well stop trying to walk, we get back up and keep trying until we eventually master it. The key to changing failure into success is to completely change how we view failure.

Look At Failure Objectively

Many people think that if they have failed at something, for example a business or a relationship, then this means that they cannot run a business or ever have a relationship. The key is to see each failure as a stepping stone to eventual success. Every time we fail, we learn how not to do something so we can choose to do it differently next time.

Failures are simply stepping stones to success

The person who failed at starting a business can take the lessons learnt and choose to run his next business differently with a greater chance of success, and the person who has failed in a relationship can choose to change aspects of their behavior to ensure that their next relationship works a lot better.

  • A lot of successful businessmen and entrepreneurs have a history of failed business, even bankruptcy, and have learnt from these to create bigger and more profitable ventures.
  • Most successful authors have had many rejections before finding a publisher willing to accept their work.
  • Some of the best known actors on our television screens have had periods when they have not been able to find work or have missed out on a part they auditioned for.

When we fail at something we need to stop feeling as though we have failed as a person– we just tried something which didn’t work.

Failure should not be taken personally. It is simply an event, not who we are.

We need to see failure as a requirement for moving towards our goals, and even learn to be thankful for our failures- we can learn such a lot from them. When you fail at something, take the time to write down why it failed, and work out what you could have done differently to prevent that failure.

Use Failure as Stepping Stones to Success

Failure into Success

Failure into Success

Use logic rather than emotion, and take full responsibility for the actions you took which resulted in the failure. Now you have a plan to avoid the failure when you try again in the future.

If you find that you are having difficulty getting over the failure, think of it as a stepping stone on the route to your eventual success, and remind yourself of your overall goal.

Take some time out and give yourself a little reward- we are not used to rewarding ourselves for failing, but it is time we started to celebrate our failures and the lessons we learn from them.

Don’t let the failure have a negative impact on your emotions and stop you from moving forwards towards success. If your current strategy isn’t working, don’t be afraid to stop what you are doing, reconsider and plan a different approach, even if a lot of time or money has already been invested.

Turn Failure into Success

Above all, remember that the person who never fails is the person who never tries or achieves anything. You will fail sometimes in pursuit of your goals, but it’s the lessons you learn from each failure that will help you to eventually succeed, and you will grow and develop as a person as a result.

Sometimes a failure can even open doors to even greater opportunities, for example if you fail to get the job you were after, you may see a better one, or even decide to start your own business. All it takes is a shift in your mindset to change that failure into success.
