Vitamin Shoppe Sued Over Weight Loss Supplement

Law360, New York (August 9, 2017, 1:21 PM EDT) — Vitamin Shoppe Inc. has falsely advertised that a dietary supplement can contribute to weight loss when the product’s active ingredients have no such benefits, according to a proposed class action removed to California federal court Tuesday.

Andrea Nathan said the company’s Garcinia Cambogia Extract dietary supplement claims to facilitate ”weight management” and “appetite control,” but its only active ingredients, hydroxycitric acid and chromium, “are scientifically proven to be incapable of providing such weight-loss benefits.”
