8 Ways To Boost Your Metabolism

One way that you can keep a trim figure is to increase your metabolism. Giving your metabolism a boost will not only give you increased energy, but it will also help you burn more calories even while you are at rest. Here are 8 things you can do to help boost your metabolism.

Ways To Boost Your Metabolism

1. Eat small meals. Having about five or six small meals per day, instead of eating three large ones, will help keep your metabolism going at a higher rate. This regularity will keep the body from hoarding food and turning it into fat.

2. Build muscle with s. Since muscle is able to burn a lot more calories than fat, it’s a great idea to do some training and build up muscle tone. It will only take a few times a week of training to start gaining more muscle. The key to this is to go slowly while lifting and always work towards using a heavier with less repititions.

3. Get enough vitamin B. Vitamin B12 is an excellent energy boosting supplement. Not having enough of this in your system can make fatigue set in during the day. Taking the recommended amount which is listed on the supplement bottle is all that is needed.

4. Don’t starve. Starving yourself will only trigger the body’s mechanism to store food. It’s goal is to keep you from starving to death during a famine, which is what it thinks is happening when not enough food is eaten. This reaction turns anything that is consumed into fat and is stored for later.

5. Eat breakfast. Breakfast is an important way to help the body get ready for the day. It has spent all night going without food and now needs some form of nutrition to get energized for whatever activities are in store for it. The best thing to eat is something that is light in calories and high in protein. Yogurt with fruit and a couple of nuts is a great breakfast that will turn your metabolism on and keep you full and satisfied until the next meal.

6. Don’t eat right before bed. Eating right before bedtime does two things. First, the body can’t rest properly since all of its energy is going to trying to digest the large amount of food that was just stuffed into your stomach. Secondly, your body won’t be able to use any of the energy gained from this food and it will be stored as fat!

7. Drink lots of ice cold water. Water is the fluid that makes up most of the human body and it also moves toxins through the body. Drinking eight glasses of water a day is what’s needed to keep everything working properly. These aren’t gigantic glasses either, just eight ounces per glass is plenty. If you drink your water ice cold, then it helps to boost your metabolism because your body takes more energy to process the cold water.

8. Get enough sleep. Believe it or not, getting a good nights sleep is critical to your metabolism. You need to give your body plenty of time to relax and re-energize for the next day.

Eczema Cure – Oatmeal Bath

Both my son and daughter suffer from Eczema and we did try giving them an oatmeal bath as an Eczema cure.

Eczema is a skin condition that, on my kids anyway, results in red rashes on the skin in the folds of their elbows, backs of knees and in the folds of their neck. I was looking for a cure for this problem as at this point we are putting on a steroidal cream on the eczema to get rid of it and it kind of burns when we are smoothing it in.

I have found one cure online and it is thanks to about.com. The Oatmeal Bath is supposed to help to get rid of these sores and tonight I tried it out with my son. I will have to post again over the next couple of days to let you know if this works to get rid of the eczema at least temporarily. Here are the instructions for creating a Oatmeal Bath.

Eczema Cure – Oatmeal Bath

To try this eczema cure and to make an oatmeal bath, which is more like an oatmeal soup I found, you’ll need a blender, food processor or coffee grinder and 1 cup of oatmeal. You can use instant oatmeal (unflavored), quick oats or slow cooking oats- all work equally as well. For babies, you’ll only need about 1/3 cup per bath.

Blend or process the oats on the highest setting until you have a very fine, consistent powder. To test the colloid property of the oats, stir 1 tablespoon oats into a glass of warm water. If the oats readily absorb the water and give it a milky look and a silky feel, you’ve blended long enough.

Giving an Eczema Cure Oatmeal bath

Sprinkle the oats into a tub of running water and stir the water with your hand several times to ensure even distribution. Feel along the bottom of the tub for clumps and break up any you find.

Take care assisting your child into the tub as the oats will make the tub even more slippery than usual. Allow your child to soak in the tub for 15-20 minutes and pat dry with a soft towel rather than rubbing.

You can use this bath once or twice a day or more frequently as your doctor advises.

Common uses for Oatmeal Baths:

  • Chicken pox
  • Poison Ivy, Oak and Sumac
  • Dry skin
  • Insect bites
  • Eczema
  • Diaper rash
  • Anal itching (often from pinworms)
  • Windburn
  • Sunburn
  • Shingles

When I did this oatmeal bath for the kids I found that they were a little nervous getting in as it looked milkyish. After they got in it was fine though and in fact it did help their eczema.  Try it out and let us all know what you find. There are other baths as well besides an oatmeal bath and I will try my best to post more of them.

Mango Frozen Yogurt From Your Own Kitchen

So I had a friend share this video that is kinda funny, kinda good, and very inspiring.

The fellow is talking about finding a good after workout snack that is high in protein.

And it leads to making homemade Mango Frozen Yogurt in a gym changing room. The guys name is Tom Daley, he is pretty popular on YouTube and is an elite level swimmer. The chef? Don’t know who he is.

I have now watched this video a few times and finally my daughter and I made it last night. We liked it but I have a few things to say about this.

First of all the changing room looks pretty clean but not so sure. Are we supposed to bring blenders into the gym changing room?

And, where do you store frozen fruit and yogurt in a gym?

Mango Frozen Yogurt Experiment

So, seriously, I was really inspired by this video mostly because we tend to have frozen fruit in the freezer and secondly because I love frozen yogurt but not regular yogurt. I always think of frozen yogurt as something more like ice cream than something good for you.

Mango Frozen Yogurt ingredientsThis Frozen yogurt recipe calls for very few ingredients and as my daughter and I “researched” (surfed around) YouTube we got more ideas.

In the end we tried making our Mango Froyo with these three ingredients:

  • Strawberry Greek Yogurt
  • Frozen Mangos
  • Fresh Basil

The original recipe called for plain yogurt, a bit of zest of a lime, fresh basil, and frozen Mango so we were pretty close. Sadly we had no lime or plain yogurt but I purposely want to try the greek yogurt as it is very basic and higher protein.

When you watch the video above it sees actually like they are using a food processor instead of a blender actually and I am guessing that may work better. If you think about what we made it is pretty close to making a basic smoothie.

After we had blended ours up it was not nearly as thick as the one in the video, which was awfully disappointing so we needed to put it in the freezer for an hour or so.

Mango Basil FroyoWhat Would We Change?

When the Mango Frozen Yogurt came out of the freezer it tasted great although if you are not used to greek yogurt it is a bit overwhelming at first.

Also, we may have put a bit too much of the basil in there (look how green it was).

One other thing I think I would do next time is try regular yogurt.

This greek yogurt maybe awesome for the amount of protein in it but it was a bit too strong to eat a lot which is what you would want if it is a post workout snack
