Free Weights or Weight Training Machines

Should you do only free weights at the gym or use weight training machines? Something you need to keep in mind and never forget is that when you exercise, you are training for life. You still may spend an hour a day in the gym, although that will still leave another 23 hours or so for your muscles to function without using any fancy equipment.

Whenever you do any type of exercise, the movement of your body during the exercise is known as the range of motion. The more difficult the range of motion is, the more effective the exercise will be, because your body has to work twice as hard to perform the movement.

Bicep curls – Free Weights or Weight Training Machines

Take for the instance the classic dumbbell bicep curl. If you aren’t familiar with the exercise, it is performed by standing up straight with your palms facing forward, and a pair of dumbbells held down by your sides. You’ll contract your biceps to bring the dumbbells up to your shoulder height, then repeat the exercise as many times as you wish.

Using that same movement for exercise on a bicep curl machine, you should sit down, brace your upper arms on a pad, grasp 2 handles that are in front of you, then perform the same movement as above to move the handles in an upward motion.

Now, looking at the muscle contractions in this exercise, you are contracting essentially your biceps if you are using the curl machine, and that is pretty much all you are doing. When you use the machine you are sitting down, which will limit just how much your shoulders give. The machine has several muscles used in this exercise limited to the biceps, as well as the muscles in your forearms and fingers.

Limited Range of Motion with Machines

Weight Workout Machine

Most of the time, when using machine weights, you will always be limited as to what type of exercise you can perform. You must always follow a strict procedure, which is pretty much the same with free weights. Unlike free weights, machine weights offer a certain degree of resistance.

One of the best thing about free weights is the fact that you move a little chuck around to select the weight you want to use. Instead of dragging it over to your exercise area, you simply select it on the machine. When you are tired during a workout, this can be a blessing.

A lot of people argue in the fact that free weights are the best for your body. While this is normally true, many people out there feel that machine weights are the best. There are pros and cons with both machines, although free weights have been around a lot longer and have been proven time after time to achieve dramatic results.

Body builders for example, have used free weights over the years to build very impressive bodies. If you ask most of them about machine weights, they would probably laugh at you and tell you that you need to quit joking around.

Should You Use Free Weights or Machines?

In a nutshell, free weights will use more of your muscles than the weight training machines do, which makes them more effective overall. This doesn’t mean that the machines are a waste of use, as they offer some great advantages. In some cases, it is best to stabilize the muscles that are being used in a movement, which is where machines are the best to use.

The decision on which to use for you should be based on what you hope to achieve with lifting weights and where you plan to use the equipment, such as home or at a gym. Both systems are great for your body, although the free weights are best to use if you want the best possible workout, and always ensure that your muscles are getting the right workouts they need.

Is Kate Upton Chubby?

I know that this will seem like a crazy thought but I ran across this cover of Kate Upton for Sports Illustrated last night and was a little surprised. I had heard of Kate Upton but just thought she was another skinny model.

Is Kate Upton Chubby? My wife asked me if I had seen it and I said “Hell yes, what is with those big boobs?”. Well apparently others have noticed as well.

I am not in touch with the whole women bitchiness online but apparently there are a significant number of women that say that Kate Upton is chubby and that if you saw her from behind you would see that she has cellulite that gets photoshopped out of modelling pictures.

I do have to say that Kate Upton certainly is beautiful

Not sure if this is true, and the fact is that I know nothing about modelling except for the bits I have seen when my wife is watching Next Top Model with Tyra Banks. But the fact is that modelling for so many years has been all about the pose from the skinny, bony women that are not at all attractive to me or any other man. I just shake my head at most of these magazine covers showing women with no hips and nothing on top who have cheekbones that stick out from the lack of meat on their face and ribs protruding from their chest because they have absolutely no fat or muscle on their body.

What has Female Body Image Come too?

This is a terrible state of affairs and seems to get worse all the time. If Kate Upton is chubby I say bring on more chubbiness. There is also a whole industry of fitness competitors and fitness models that is turning a lot of the industry around (I hope) not the women with the giant biceps but instead well proportioned women that look more like the beach babes of the 60s and 70s with confidence and a healthy look.

I may be an older, married guy with a couple of kids but I know what is attractive, and the models of the fashion industry that are hanging out at New York Fashion Week this week sure are not attractive to me

Beyonce Weight Loss

I have been noticing a lot of magazine covers this week talking about Beyonce and her weight loss after having a baby. Sure Beyonce is a huge pop star so I thought I would look into it and see how she was able to get backin shape again so quickly.

According to eonline she lost her weight the old fashioned way.

Meanwhile, as for her enviable physique, Beyoncé admitted to gaining about 50 pounds during her pregnancy, but says she’s now, nearly four months after Blue’s arrival, just “three to four pounds” away from her prebaby weight. And there’s no secret as to how—just good old-fashioned hard work.

“I lost most of my weight from breast-feeding and I encourage women to do it; It’s just so good for the baby and good for yourself,” she said, noting that she breast-fed Blue for 10 weeks.

From there, she went the old-fashioned route, counting calories and working out “three to four times a week.” That, and “staying away from anything delicious.”

But as we all know in the past Beyonce has gone for a lot of different types of weight loss. People Magazine on their cover this month called Beyonce “The Most Beautiful Woman on the World” and that is a lot to live up to.

I know that also back just a few years ago Beyonce was a big proponent and supporter of the Master Cleanse, or Lemonade Diet which is a 10-14 day plan where you just drink a maple syrup, lemon, cayenne pepper and water mixture.

Besides the regular diet that she has done over the last little while she also is a very determined fitness fanatic and will spend a lot of time working out to keep that great Beyonce body. She runs up to 6 miles several times a week and does boxing workouts which provide an intensive cardio workout and endurance training, which help her to be able to perform well on tour. Beyonce does full body workouts at the gym, using weights to exercise her shoulders and biceps, bodyweight training, such as push ups, sit ups, squats and lunges to work her legs, core and chest.
