Day 2 and Go to food and exercise

Well I seem to have somewhat snapped and made this blog about me as much as you…maybe even more me. But today is day 2 of my 30 day fitness challenge and I want to keep you up to speed so that you can glean some of the things I am doing and hopefully they will help you too.

What did I do?

First of all yesterday I ate quite well except for an ice cream cone. Smoothy for breakfast, left over chicken and asparagus for lunch, and chicken and a veggie stir fry for dinner. And lots of fruit and water throughout the day.

And for exercise a long bike ride to just chill and get myself ready for the week this week.

Today I am back to Oatmeal for breakfast (steel cut oats just take too long) and I had some home made pizza for lunch before a killer chest, shoulders, triceps workout. I am feeling pretty good and am really tuned in to everything to make sure I don’t slip at all. I hope you didn’t notice but I never made any goals for these 30 days even though I will ramble on and on about how important they are. I think my motivation is really strong since a few thousand people arrive here at the blog every day to keep me in check.

Go to Foods and Exercise

One thing I was thinking about today was riding and oatmeal, and yogurt. I always have my go to foods of oatmeal, protein powder, and a fridge full of fruit so I never have an excuse not to eat well. I hate yogurt but most people really like it and it is a super easy and fast meal replacement if you add some fruit, try the Greek yogurt since it is higher protein and stay away from the yogurt high in sugar or high fructose corn syrup.

For exercise I always fall back on riding or weight lifting. I know there are a lot of types of exercise out there and some people may have another goto exercise like tennis or swimming but a couple is good enough.

I know that everyone runs into eating and exercise problems and when you get lazy or tired or just busy you don’t want to have to think about it you really just want to have go to foods and exercises that you can fall back on.

If I get stressed out I tell my bike I am going for a bike ride. If I am stressed out at work I go down to the gym and have a weight workout.

Same with food. There is no thinking in the morning for me, I don’t go to a coffee place so I know that it is Oatmeal and tea that I make and I do not get strayed off to bad eating decisions.

So try to think about these things. What can you rely on and what do you always have to fall back on?

Sunburst Squash

croissantbreakfast Sunburst Squash

Yesterday morning I had a toasted croissant, 1 serving of Noosa blueberry yoghurt (very very good!), with strawberries and blueberries. Me and Josh  picked up this same yogurt while shopping over the weekend and didn’t realize until we got home and  unpacked three containers. It’s incredible and tastes more like cream (in a good way) than that sort of fakey-sour gross taste that most yogurts have.

bigsalad Sunburst Squash

For lunch I had a big salad with dark leafy greens, cucumber, Dr. Praeger’s sweet potato patty, and an organic chicken and apple sausage.

BLbootcamp Sunburst Squash

I did the 30 minute Biggest Loser Bootcamp with Bob. I can’t tell you when I bought this, but it’s been awhile. I’ve been looking for a DVD that I can replace Insanity while my knee continues to heal. It’s still twingy. But, I noticed that the more I consistently keep up with movement and exercise the better it feels.

raisinbran Sunburst Squash

For second lunch, I had a small bowl of fresh market brand raisin bran. Josh made this bowl for me like he eats it, with blueberries and a little honey. I never knew blueberries could be so good in cereal!

bigsaladwithmushrooms Sunburst Squash

Dinner was another big salad with cucumbers, sauteed mushrooms + baby squash, creamy dressing and a wedge of panini bread. I really like the squash in sauces more than alone, they were just too bitter like this. I ended up eating around them in favor of the mushrooms.

greekyogurtpops Sunburst Squash

I had these Yasso frozen Greek yogurt pops later on in the evening. They are so good and big for 70 calories!

vegfriedrice Sunburst Squash

To finish the day ( I was still hungry) I had about 3/4 cup of the vegetable fried rice that I made for Josh for dinner.

I Feel the Earth Move

Yesterday morning I woke up not feeling overly hungry. I had my usual glass of ice water and headed into work in the wee hours.

A couple of hours later the first thing I ate was a small bowl of Greek yogurt with Crofter’s blueberry spread, oats and peanuts.

Greek Yogurt Crofter's Blueberry Spread

This kept me full most of the afternoon.

And then there was an earthquake. A small one. I was in the living room with Josh talking when I said to him “why is our house shaking?” he went to check the laundry room to see if the washer was out of balance. No laundry. I stood at the window and said “this feels like an earthquake” but thought that was insane, because we live in Virginia, not California. It wasn’t for a good 30 minutes until we realized there was an earthquake. Surreal stuff. I was uneasy.

And then we had lunch. Which isn’t what I would call “health food”, but it was delicious and I genuinely hungry. The portions were not out of control either. I made a mini-goal at the beginning of the day that I would only eat when I was hungry, not overeat, and only eat what I truly love to eat.

A cheeseburger and sweet potato fries from a local drive-in. I was full for hours until about 11pm when I had a couple (3) of Wasa crackers with raw cheddar before bed. I also enjoyed 60 minutes of exercise in the evening.

Thoughts on the day:

I know that looking at my meals from an outside perspective someone would say “oh! you need more vegetables”  or “you shouldn’t eat red meat, buns, fries…” you get my point. But to me, right now, a successful day is not overeating. It’s eating when I’m truly hungry and stopping when I’m full. It’s owning and sharing what I’m actually eating, without worry of judgement. It’s eating what I want without all of the rules and guilt that I love placing on myself. I trust that some days I will order a salad instead of a burger, and others I will just want the burger. I want to own those choices and make them guilt free.
